@BigDub if you’re on Facebook, search for a page called Connie Rand artist - she’s showcasing a lot of her newer stuff there. The paintings I have were all done when I was in Jr High or younger
I am on Facebook. Thank you for that information!
My art Facebook page is a Wayne R Mathisen
@j-jericho said in Mouthpiece issue:
@rowuk ... or he should use the Bach numbering system. You know... the number of high notes is stamped into the mouthpiece, along with which pitch the mouthpiece contains! For example, a 10-1/2 C enables you to play ten and one half octaves of the note "C", whereas a 2 only has two undetermined high notes available.
Now I understand completely.
Sorry for the wandering.
Back to the question, though, I think the real thing is taking your time with it, and not trying to microwave your results. More of a slow cook approach. ( I am paraphrasing what Rowuk said. He knows the deal. )

So here's my lineup:
- Hail Thee, Festival Day - arr Joseph Wilcox Jenkins based on Salve Festa Dies by Ralph Vaughn Williams)
- Festival Alleluia - James Chepponis
- Christ is Our Cornerstone - Philp W. J. Stopford
- Mass For the City (only parts of it) - Richard Proulx
- The Earth Is Risen - Gwyneth Walker
- Jesus Christ is Risen Today - arr Jeremy J. Bankson
- Hallelujah Chorus - Handel
Wow - I'm just now realizing how much music this is. Oh well - I seem to be able to get through it ok.
On a side note, this is for 4-piece brass and tympani with organ (a real, well-maintained pipe organ!) and choir that is mostly made up of students from the Johns Hopkins Peabody Conservatory of Music. I've been paid more to play less, but I always come away from this feeling richer for having been there with these fine people.
I'm playing lead on all of it, so there is that middle section from the Hallelujah Chorus where I'm always wondering if I'm going to make it, but I haven't had an issue with it, so here's hoping that it goes ok on Sunday too.
That is a lot of work load there, especially with the Hallelujah Chorus coming at the end. Is this for one service or are there more than one? I don’t have as much but there are two services, and there’s virtually no break between the Hallelujah Chorus and our postlude, Grand Choeur Dialogue. That will be a challenge........everything I am doing tomorrow (Easte) is on the C trumpet. But for two services. That will be the test of endurance for me.

Heard this one on the radio today:
Owwwwwwwwch
Immediate dismissal for that band director too. They had no chance of playing that properly. I am pretty certain they didn’t nail it in practice and then get stage fright....
The headache could be mental anguish rather than a physical thing. I am not a Dr. Though, Dr's GO and Mark
so I am owning that.
I do know this, if I have to sit in front of the drums I sometimes end up with a headache.

So sorry I bothered you about that BigDub lockout thing. Get well soon !
OF course-
Your health is number one priority....I didn’t know either.
I feel very good about how things went for me as well. I knew my endurance was going to be tested to a high degree so in anticipation I was doing "two a days" practice sessions for the week or more leading up to Easter. It was just enough to help me through some high passages ( for me, anyway ) on the Hallelujah Chorus, Christ The Lord is Risen Today ( descant on C, two verses ) and the first part in Grand Choeur Dialogue. All of these then repeated in a second service as well. At one point, I reminded myself to breathe, breathe, breathe, and I am glad I did that. It really helped me relax as well. Also I was mindful the whole time who this was for, and it wasn’t me for sure!

Another awesome performance by Clapton. (These are classic - I laugh so hard I literally have tears rolling down my face.)
I love these, Patrick. But I don’t remember giving you permission to use my recordings of me.
I saw one of Wynton doing Cherokee which had me so fooled at first ( not a big stretch ) but gradually more and more clams came out. The thing that made it so convincing was that it was so well synced, the fingers moved and the notes lined up perfectly.
Can you please keep him at that status? I have had my fill of him as well, some personal abuse I might add.
One other thing that I remembered happening on Easter Sunday, second service. For the Hallelujah Chorus, they invite anyone who has ever sang it to come up front and join in singing it. Nobody turns around and stares at me when I start to play, usually.
This time there were two little girls who came up with Mom ( I am guessing ), and I was so tickled when they turned around as if they heard the ice cream truck coming down the street, biggest smiles on their faces. They probably couldn’t see me in the back of the crowded platform when they first came up, so when I started in it was a total surprise to them. As I said, the grownups are too proper, and, well, grown up to turn and stare. I bet it was all they could do not to. I'm glad I get to stand behind the bell, rather than in front of it........just saying.

I don't know I just think that giving the response of "I'm feeling suicidal today," to the cashier's question "How are you?" Just doesn't seem quite right.
Especially when embarking on an airline flight.........

One man's opinion; yes.
He doesn’t mind at this point.

I am aware of a bug that has recently appeared where the mobile menu does not work properly. I am working on fixing this, it may take a few days. Thank you to those who helped make me aware of this issue.
I‘m still trying to order something from the stationary menu.
Just sayin'.

@BigDub I'm in again for playing at the European Folklore Festival in Bitburg, Germany, with Welsh brass band Coronation Brass. ssmith1226 knows the routine, and has gone through that; but for every one else, I'll tell of the procedure.
Every year, a scratch band is formed for this event - mostly by word of mouth and b e-mail. Then, from the four corners of the earth, around 25 people gather in Bitburg on a Friday afternoon, have a drink or two together and get handed a folder of sheet music from the Great British Brass Band Repertoire, usually containing two or three big Championship Section test pieces of the past, a couple of marches and a selection from the musical cheeseboard. And then everyone is told to don their black tie outfits and be ready to play (i.e. perform in front of an eexpectant public) within the hour, for two to three hours, and then have a go at drinking the brewery cellars empty. Next morning, after breakfast, play three minor half-hour gigs, then a big two-hour event, then another all-night open air concert... and repeat until Monday evening. In all, from Friday to Monday, Coronation Brass manages to squeeze in more or less fifteen hours performance time.
No rehearsal, just sight reading.
And the crowds love it.Quite a number of player manage to help out in other bands while Coronation Brass is officially resting...
Very tempting, Barliman, but right at the moment getting down to South Carolina to see our granddaughter is our main concern, and we are having a lot of difficulty finding a good time for everyone!
@tjcombo said in DIY Practice mute out of PET Coke bottles:
@BigDub first of all props to you for having made a wooden trumpet. I've done enough wood turning to know that my wood-turning skills are not up to such a challenge. I can see two issues with turning a wooden mute - first the difficulty in turning such a thin-walled object (there, I've confessed my limitations), the second is the durability of the item. It would likely be pretty fragile. A fabricated wooden mute would have its own construction challenges but at least each wooden part would be cut such that t wasn't cross-grain.
But I do look forward to seeing any the outcome of you efforts...
First of all, I appreciate the compliment, though perhaps it might be exaggerated a bit. And secondly, my wooden mute construction ideas are so far working just fine, in the current state they sit, which is firmly in my head.
I have gone through quite a few scenarios and possible techniques,( once again, in my head ) and they are often dismissed before going to trial....I will certainly check out those mutes in a googly kind of way soon.

I don't know what this has with "Humor", but since we're on the subject of TSA - in my travels, I've been met with both horrible conditions and people, and easy ones. To me, it generally had to do with location. I.e., TSA in New York as abdominal and rude while TSA in Honolulu was fine.
I just don’t have the stomach for those abdominal TSA agents
As long as your stomach contents is under 3 oz, you're OK!
