Thanks for continuing this topic. But please consider that graduate schools are a phenomenon of the USA only. I would like to ask those members who have non-USA experience in this field to contribure.

European Folklore Festival, again
It's that special time of the year again, and I am heading north with a small party from Brass Band Vienna to join Coronation Brass for their umpteenth participation in the European Folklore Festival in Bitburg, Germany... four days with four gigs each, no music beforehand, it's sit down and play... sight-reading old favourites and the whole time-honoured cheeseboard, with a few older test pieces thrown in for good measure... this year, the line-up of participations has more brass-related interest: Several big bands, a New Orleans-style brass band, couple of oompah outfits and the local ruffians who have evolved into a large wind orchestra of some quality... Anyone in the area from 12 July onwards should head there and get their ears full of brass playing of all sorts... meet Coronation Brass and have a few free beers with them - Bitburg, after all, is a small town next to a big, big brewery... they say the brewery employs more people than are living in the town...

RE: And I thought we were exposed playing the Trumpet
@SSmith1226 Oh, the sethoflagos method... he can buy any trumpet he wants, as long as he pays the value of the trumpet into his wife's jewellery account...

RE: Anybody bid on this Selmer Radial?
@administrator The fact that someone hated this horn so much as to lose one valve cap and put a different one in shows that the horn was maltreated.

@ssmith1226 "Due to the rising cost of electricity, police will replace tasers with nettle wands..."

RE: The 15 Best Miles Davis Quotes
I can only counter this with how Maurice André once described trumpet playing to me:
"Playing se trompette is like singing, just wisout a sore throat." -
RE: Adams Sonic or Yamaha 631G
@administrator That is a standard Courtois 4-valve flugel... yes, they are THAT BIG!!

RE: And I thought we were exposed playing the Trumpet
@Newell-Post sethoflagos is under immense pressure at the moment. He will return as soon as he's ready. But he's alive and well.

RE: 🎺 Trumpet Toolkit for Teaching and Learning 🎶
@Trumpetb This kind of Disney policy is nothing but self-centred dictatorship. Several times I've had my trumpet - even if only a pocket trumpet - with me on cruises, and every time I was invited to sit in with the ship's orchestra. Even during my recent rehab, I had my pocket trumpet with me and was invited to play with the hospital orchestra... seven years ago, during a rehab, I was invited to sit in with the local big band in defiance of hospital rules... th orchestra won, and the hospital changed its rulebook. (See picture; I'm the guy in the black shirt...)
Boycott Disney for being the entertainment monopolists that they try to be...

Almost unknown female jazz trumpet player and singer...
Just came across Valaida Snow... here's her take on Cab Calloway's Minnie the Moocher (with Cab and his orchestra!)

GAUDET C trumpet
Hi,
I've just snared a Gaudet C trumpet on fleabay which from the pictures could only have been a Courtois... typical pinkie hook (but without the hole to make AC), typical Courtois valves, typical Courtois water keys... but the engraving on the bell says "Gaudet, France". It was a mere € 250 so not much lost in any event (no other bidder!), but I'd like to know more. Anyone out there willing to part with essential knowledge? Nothing on horn-u-copia. -
RE: 🎺 Trumpet Toolkit for Teaching and Learning 🎶
@Trumpetb I think the only way of getting the entertainment monopolies broken is to respectfully find a way round the rules... seven years ago, it was hospitl policy not to allow anyone out after therapy hours. I simply told them that for me, playing music was part of my therapy, and denying me the chance to do so was endangering the overall success of the therapy. I finally threatened to leave that rehab and consult with the national press, and then got my leave of absence. Next day - a holiday - I was out and about gigging the whole day, with most of hospital staff in the audience...

RE: I Can’t Get Started
@administrator I got to hear MF when a young child - badgered my stepfather into driving me to the annual local jazz festival... and many years later I attended a master class by Al Porcino, Stan Kenton's lead trumpet...

RE: A little humour
An old Austrian farmer - the kind who's still wearing leather trousers every day - gets a talking to by his wife. "You really should start wearing underpants at your age," she says. "It's much warmer and cleaner. I bought you a pair for your first trial." - "Ok" he says and puts them on before setting out for the fields. At midday, he feels the need for some relief and retires behind a hedge, lowering his leathers but forgetting the new underpants. After finishing what he came to do, he grudgingly concedes that his wife was right. "It's much warmer," he says to himself, and, looking behind him,"it's much cleaner, too!"
