Here is a fascinating subject. If you watch the video below starting at 21:14, they discuss fitness loss and regaining, and how new science supports the idea that it is actually much easier to rebuild fitness after a period away from exercise than it is to build it in the first place. Essentially, the nuclei of muscle cells do not die as you lose fitness. This seems rather interesting for a brass musician, too. It seems to me like it would be much easier to regain strength than to develop it the first time. I have seen this to be true, as I am a repeat comeback player, and can usually regain the majority of my strength within a month of starting a new routine. Whereas, it took me years as a kid to get to that point in the first place.

Sleep Faster
I'm no doctor. Now, Arnold Schwarzenegger has a saying, and it goes like this. He says there is too much to do in life, and so, we should be sleeping 6 hours a night. If you need more sleep, you should sleep faster! What in the world does that mean? It sounds an awful lot like alpha-Male-style motivation, sort of what a weightlifter might tell himself every morning (any surprise then of the source.)

RE: A little humour
I don't know I just think that giving the response of "I'm feeling suicidal today," to the cashier's question "How are you?" Just doesn't seem quite right.

RE: Adverts
Ha. That is a misleading ad! I can't really control what you see, though. Thank the maker I'm not using Taboola (shudder). If you do use AdBlock, you can take comfort in knowing that only you and God know the truth!

RE: A little humour
What's fun is actually giving an honest answer to that question.

RE: Check out this 1933 Selmer Balanced Model trumpet!
@ACB do you do your valve rebuilds in house?

RE: No real gains on anything more than 40-45 minutes of practice.
Would you say that the paragon of performance was when the flow of norepinephrine through the capillaries of Maynard Ferguson was at its apex? Surely his sympathetic nervous system would concur.

Bugles Across America
If you live in the United States and have a few extra minutes once a month or so, please consider joining Bugles Across America, a service organization dedicated to providing live buglers at Military Funerals and Functions. I have personally performed for several veterans' funerals, as well as a number of Veteran's Day celebrations. It is always satisfying and, occasionally, you get free food!

RE: Game of Thrones Thread
So...the ending was no good? I mean, I literally know nothing. I do remember watching Lost. The ending was quite a let down.

RE: How about pics of the Greatest doing what they do best on the homepage?
The only concern I have is copyright infringement with photos.

Physical pain never leads to good things as a trumpet player. It is not an athletic activity. When I go cycling, I expect to feel pain in my legs and I expect my cardio system to pick up significantly. If I feel no pain it means I'm not working hard enough!
This never applies to brass playing. Pain means you're done practicing!

Pressure is rarely an issue in and of itself. It's more often than not a symptom of the underlying issue. Therefore, it's hard to say what is "too much" pressure and what is not. However, if you feel any pain at all, you are probably hurting yourself. No pain no gain does not apply to trumpet playing!

RE: Kanstul Update Thread
As they say, "Nothing resonates like a Kanstul." I'm sure this will resonate poorly throughout the industry.
