    • I bought a fairly rare trumpet

Well...I did it again. I bought another trumpet when I should not have!

      Here is what I purchased:

@tjcombo said in Martin Committee Club:

I joined the Committee club during lockdown about a year back with this beauty. It was a roll-of-the-dice purchase. A couple of patches of missing lacquer made it look a bit suss. At the price - USD1600, I thought it might be worth throwing some money at it for repairs.
It arrived in its original case which is currently being restored. Turns out to be straight as a die, very little wear on the valves and fits me like a glove. It’s been my daily player since it arrived and has just come back from a chemical clean and valve alignment.
It was made in my year of birth which makes it even more special to me.86290673-2701-4D38-B3A6-E3DF5E272CD6.jpeg

What year / bore size? I think you got a great deal.

    • RE: James Morrison Trumpet Tutorial Series

I have watched this series before, and found his tips to be helpful. Keep in mind that, in my opinion, James Morrison is very much a "natural" trumpet player, so the way he teaches is going to be different than the way a trumpet player who has spent a great deal of time working through specific challenges would do.

I have one. Good mpc. but no added-value for me, so don't use it.

That's good to know because they are quite pricey. I was at the local music store last night trying MPCs. They had a Bach, Denis Wick and a Monette. I couldn't get the Monette to work right for me, and then when I saw the $400 price tag it was a definite no-go.

@administrator Better to get used to the new horn with your current mpc and see how you like the combination. If you don’t, worry about that later. Changing up both at once might be more than you really want to deal with.

Yep. I'm just playing around right now. I haven't played in 7 years so....it's fun for me!

    • How many is too many?

...trumpets that is. I was thinking perhaps a googol might be on the side of "overkill." But then, it just depends on what gigs your doing and your needs anyway.

Ok, now I want a new MPC to go with my new (to me) Super Recording. Should I try an AR? They're quite pricey. If so, which one? I play a Bach 3C at the moment.

    • I have decided on a Superhorn!!

I have made a decision. I found a horn on TrumpetHerald marketplace that I would consider a rather rare & valuable trumpet. It is an Olds Super Recording, ~1941, completely restored by Charlie Melk. I've never owned an Olds trumpet, let alone a "Super Recording," but I have heard many legends about these instruments. It's not cheap but I think I will like it, and if not, it should hold its value.

I'm flying back to the USA tomorrow for a couple of weeks to take care of business (stupid taxes!) and so, I figured I would get the horn while I am there and not deal with shipping to a foreign country.
