I just bought a 2B and I love it! How does it compare with a 22B?

RE: Which picc?

Just had a very disappointing experience with ACB. I had already put a John Packer picc (shop demo, at half price) into my online cart and had by e-mail declared that I wanted it and was just discussing with them how to handle the transfer of funds from Europe when they sent me an e-mail saying, sorry, the horn was just sold at a trade show, and would I want their beginners' picc, the ACB Doubler, instead?
Trent Austin, I respect you as a musician; but as a business man, this kind of going back on a sale already agreed upon would get you banned in Europe.
Well, let's give him a chance to respond and see how that goes.

I repeated a joke that drew a lot of likes on the on the old board and apparently it was deleted. I guess it must have been judged too much for this board.
Sorry, somebody flagged it.

You are offended by what? Explain it to me.
I don't think he's offended, just that maybe the joke was a little off color.

RE: Used prices?
I bought a used Strad once for $500. That was a good deal.

RE: Used prices?
Market, demand and such. If you want a very reasonably priced used instrument, go for an "off" brand that is still quality, e.g. Conn, CarolBrass vs Bach, Yamaha. Often you can find more reasonable prices and a very good instrument, sometimes better than the more well-known makes.

RE: Should I buy this rare, vintage Conn? I think I know the answer already...
I bought it. Man, it's been a long time. 5+ years. Will post photos soon. It's gorgeous.

Well duh!! It's a 2B and they're scarce anyway. The guy next to me plays his and it sounds great. He's 93 and the original owner! Give yourself a Christmas present for doing such a great job with TB!!!
Ha! Thanks. I think I will go for it.

RE: Louis Dowdeswell
Nice playing. I still can't wrap my mind around why anybody would voluntarily listen to "Gonna Fly Now." I really dislike that song.

RE: Laughter is the Best Medicine
Ha. Perhaps! It's clever, though. Since you're a doctor, I'll let it slide.

RE: Christmas Services
Haven't done any Christmas concerts in probably 3 years. Last one I remember was playing Piccolo for "Hallelujah Chorus." I miss playing regularly, that's for sure.

There are many reasons Rayburn's folded.
Brick and Mortar shops (like mine) can survive. It's probably just a lot more challenging in this Amazon world. We are gonna keep fightin' at it!
Yes, I suspect there are. It seems that stores who can adapt, can survive!

RE: Brick & Mortar Music Stores
When I learned of Rayburn's music in Boston (across the street from Symphony Hall) shutting its doors, that was the moment I realized that brick-and-mortar music stores were done for. I'm not sure how it is in the rest of the world, but in the USA, brick-and-mortar stores of all kinds are struggling. Same with bicycle shops.

RE: Difference between trumpet and cornet
I think the fact that a cornet bell is closer to the ear makes a big, big difference in the way the player approaches the instrument.

RE: Anybody master the 1-3, 2-4 trill?
Yes, but trilling with your middle and pinky creates character!
