Does anybody have information or experience with Stagg cornets? I am looking at the student model WS-CR215. It appears to be dirt cheap compared to other low cost student models. I cannot find any reviews on this item.

Stagg have a website. The way it reads it is a European company founded sometime in the 70s in Japan and purchased later by a Europen company. Maybe an email to the company will answer any questions you may have about that particular model.

Any cornet at that price point are made in China. Companies buy them and place their name on them.
The quality is not consistent. Seams are not soldered correctly, the valves break down quickly. Most music repair shops will not work on them. I have owed several cornets lower priced cornets made in China. Most I have sold for parts.
Ask the companies if they use serial numbers. If the don't, don't buy.
The last cornet I bought used, was a Schiller Shephard's crook professional. for $149.00. Cost of a new one was $279.00.
Had all the seams re-soldered etc. Minimum cost for repair is $100.00 dollars.
Sold it for a $100. 00. Good looking horn and played well.

Bought a used Jupiter 520 M student cornet for $179.00. Excellent built, fantastic sound. Plays like a semi pro, nearly professional cornet.

My recommendation is to buy a used Getzen, Bach, Yamaha, Jupiter cornet.

At that price you can just throw it away and replace it anyway...isn't that the society we live in already?

My understanding is that Stagg buys low-end instruments from whatever sources are available at the time and then markets them under their own brand. Once in a while you get one that plays OK.

Wow ! I'd give that company a wide berth.
