      I have exclusive rights to 8VB whenever I want.

      This reminds me of a couple Arturo Sandoval concerts I attended. He would go into the stratosphere and then crash to hell (if you get my drift). I did not know that such low notes were possible on the trumpet.

        He plays a Harrelson and that helps. Sure he can do it on any horn, but why work so hard. I met him personally at a workshop and he confided this to me... of course after I gifted him two Cuban cigars.

          Is it the Harrelson with the cigar wrapper on the bell? Surely that's the reason behind his range.

            Arturo does have a Harrelson...but to be completely honest and fair...he has a LOT of different trumpets.

            The guy has jumped from one brand to another to another for years. I think some are gifted to him by makers hoping he’ll love it and cause the rest of us to go “If Arturo likes it, it must be really good... I’m going to buy one!”.

            I know of a handful of websites that claim Arturo plays their horn/mouthpiece. It’s a claim to fame!

            I’d love to see a candid, non biased interview with him where he addresses his love for trumpet gear.

                Yes, it is the Harrelson with the cigar wrapper on the bell. Saw it close range. It is really beautiful art work!

                  I saw Arturo last fall and believe that he’s now playing Van Laar, also with the cigar wrapper (Fuente) bracelet hanging off the bell.

                    Good Morning Dr-GO!
                    I think you've left out a very important variable as it pertains to playing in the upper register. That variable being the importance of the tongue and how it is used.
                    Low notes = the tongue is low inside the mouth
                    High notes = the tongue is high inside the mouth
                    Stupid high notes = the tongue is high inside the mouth and the air is shot through the gap between my two front teeth. Sounds stupid but it works. It allows me to play up to a triple high C.

                      Ah... but even more important is the vertical smile. This will put all anatomy of muscles involved (tongue, orbiqularis) into a most favorable environment to achieve optimal positioning.

                            @Hi Dr-GO,
                            I think I get it. It's kinda like 2 all beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions, on a sesame seed bun. The vertical smile is the special sauce.

                              Oh dear. No. It's just the 2 all beef patties. Please, no more talk of sauce, special or otherwise.

                                The two all beef patties would be the cheeks.... but the corners of them lip heading North to the Zygomatic arche... That's the special sauce, and it's spelled Pheeeeoooooo
