Buescher True Tone puzzle
-
Curious about our Buescher True Tone trumpet; Elkhart, Indiana; Serial #257991; LP 204; Patent date 10-29-1907; Herco mouthpiece. Have searched and cannot find this serial # on Buescher info. In overall good condition and valves are all very good. Considering selling it but have no idea on what to ask. Any assistance is very much appreciated. Thanks. Rita (Jrlaumer)

Data on early Buescher instrument serial numbers is somewhat sketchy. With good valves, this could qualify as a peashooter; but it is nothing really special, nothing like the later Aristocrat series. I have a similar one which I got for $ 150.

Just looked more closely - it's a Low Pitch model (meaning it works with today's tuning) and is a model 204.

And one more bit of info:

This list puts it between 1930 and 1931 -
That's quite beautiful. There are a number of Buescher experts out there, I think you will be able to find what you need. Good luck!

@administrator Thank you! We’ve already received an informative response… we appreciate the help.

@barliman2001 Thank you very much for taking the time to reply! We appreciate the information provided. The valves are in very good condition. Joel’s brother is a professional trumpet player and looked it over recently; good sound and very good condition. Do you have an opinion on a fair price to ask? Again, thank you!

Looks like it takes a cornet mouthpiece or a smaller proprietary trumpet mouthpiece. That trumpet mouthpiece just barely goes into the receiver.

@dale-proctor From my rather extended experience with Buescher trumpets, normal mouthpieces fit easily and without problems, and the 204 model # stamped on the valve block excludes it being a trumpet shaped cornet. So my guess is that that Herco mouthpiece might have begun life as an alto horn mouthpiece...

Being a bit of a Buescher enthusiast, I'll start the bidding: $ 200 + shipping.

@dale-proctor Thanks for your comment. We knew the Herco mouthpiece wasn’t a good fit and we purchased a new Bach that fits properly. We also bought a new, soft-side carry case because the original was shelled. Again, we really appreciate the informative comments we have received!

@barliman2001 Apologies for our late response …canning tomatoes has been my preoccupation lately. Thank you for your interest!
We are currently out of town and need to do a bit more research before making a decision. We bought a new case and mouthpiece for this and would want to have them go as a unit. I will send add’l photos when we get home.
Again, thank you for your responses…much appreciated.
