I am not an Olds expert but my guess is that a pinto bell has been placed on another horn. The bracing does not look like Olds at all. A serial number would help in dating this to see if this was the norm for the year.

Agreed. Big clue is Olds Pinto used a plastic valve block;)

I was allowing for the possibility that maybe the early Pintos didn't have the plastic valve block.

Very much a bitza, Olds pinto bell, nickle top tuning slide receiver, too short, perhaps replaced leadpipe, different 2nd valve slide.

              Regards, Stuart.

I have an Olds Pinto in pinto bean brown! THAT is no Pinto! It is probably vastly superior to any real Pinto out there. ☺ ☺ ☺ ☺

Even mounted on a base with wiring for a lamp is not a good idea for this horn.
I wouldn’t give you .99 cents for it

Was there the same opinion of Olds Trumpets on TH as there was on TM? I kind of figured all the raving about them on TM led to a lot of the price rise on them. With it gone, might they decline?

People find an Olds horn and read a few rave reviews and think they have a gold mine.

I am not sure of the opinions on TM as opposed to TH but IMHO the Ambassador valves & block were some of the finest made. I have known several to build there own horns and they chose that valve block to build off of.

I agree, but believe our praising them for years has driven the prices up. With TM gone, will those rave reviews keep up?

Over the last 3 years, i have bought at least 30 Olds horns, mostly Ambassadors, and have yet to find a valve problem, except for one driven out with a hammer. Olds had GREAT world class valves.

TM was a repository of Ambassador lovers. Good, solid horns, but some of the glowing stuff people said about them was pure horse hockey. I used to own one and tried to play some "legit" music on it. Nope...

During the late 70's I made my living as a full time repair tech at the local music store. I saw quite a few Pintos and its cousin, the Reynolds Ranger. They did not have plastic valve blocks. They were brass valve blocks coated in a thick plastic. They could be taken apart without a torch, and the valves were interchangeable. And they sucked big time. But they were nearly indestructible.
