My First Complaint!

We moved back aboard the boat last week and the next day at about 4PM I pulled out my cornet to practice. About fifteen minutes in I heard @#$%^&*( from the next boat over. My wife came into the cabin and said that my neighbor had "requested" I not pay just then. It seems he was not feeling well.
Then yesterday I had to call an ambulance for him. It turns out he drinks rather more than is healthful; on a regular basis.
Departing tomorrow on the afternoon tide. There won't be any neighbors close by for the next week at least.

@Chuck-Rose That was interesting, Chuck. On a nice afternoon I sometimes practice on my back deck, belting out a few ballads. The first time I played outside I got a little applause and that's when I knew I had great neighbors. But I am careful not to overdo it.

My house has hurricane windows, so my neighbors can barely hear me. My first complaint when I started my comeback was from my dog, an 11-year old beagle. She howled at every note! Now, a year and a half later, she rarely howls. Either I improved or her hearing is going.

I have more respect for neighborhood peace and quiet than to practice outside. I'm inside the house with the bedroom door closed. If people want to hear me play, they can come to a gig and hear it...lol

@Bob-Pixley I know what you're saying, Bob. I would never play outdoors if it annoyed anyone. But my neighbors all like to party around their pools, and my next door neighbor has two teen age sons who used to play in a rock band and they often practiced in the evenings. Tit for tat in some cases. Anyway, my one man outdoor concerts are very rare...

I too like to keep piece with the neighbors. Now when I am rehearsing in my music room, no problem as it is in our lower level (below ground level) AND I have special soundproofing materials in the room's walls and ceiling (so I can play when my third shift working wife is sleeping).

If I should ever decide to play outside (usually with my outdoor speakers with my Sonos system) I insert a Harmon mute and play at the level of the speakers. I have never in the 5 years I have done this, had complaints from my neighbors.

AND when I go on vacations in hotels or cruise ships, I ALWAYS use my Yamaha silent mute (or a hand towel over my mouthpiece) and have NEVER had a complaint in all the decades I have practiced with these methods.

Get yourself some bagpipes... play them for a few minutes, then when you switch to trumpet everyone will be so relieved and happy that they'll want you to keep playing, living in fear that you'll switch back!!

I didn’t even look to see who replied but recognized the practice room, Doc. But to whom do these foreign pieces of art belong? And where is your accordion? I would like an explanation......heh,heh, heh.

To Your Last Point (accordion question) First:
Who needs an accordion when I can produce any instrument I want on that Moog synthesizer that is set up to the right of that Hammond organ!

To Your Picture Questions:
Most of the "foreign" pieces of the "framed" art belong to and were produced by me. These are pictures taken of the many bands and venues I had played in over the years. The other walls not shown in this picture have quite a bit more on display.

The exception is the one piece you see that is blue on white. That is a poster of Bill Watrous with his autograph above that he signed for me acknowledging his thanks after a concert tour I made with him as his lead trumpet player.

So no hard feelings, I did not purchase any of these art works and remain in contractual compliance with my artist in residence!

BTW, "bagpipes" come in sundry sounds and styles. What you are referring to are Highland Pipes. Check out Northumbrian pips.
