Olds Trumpet ( Model# NA100ZU )
-
Is anyone familiar with this horn's history and its good and bad points?
I'm looking at the possibility of picking up one at a very reasonable price.
I haven't been able to find much info on the internet with the exception of a few that are for sale.
Thanks very much.

It’s an Olds in name only, produced by the company that bought the rights to the name after Olds went out of business in 1979. Some features do look like those on the Ambassador model trumpet, though. I’ve never played one, so I can’t give any info on the quality of the instrument.

To the best of my knowledge, this trumpet is a Blessing stencil that was produced by NEMC in the 1990's. It's considered an affordable, playable horn that is Olds in name only. They can be purchased for as little as $100, sometimes going for $150 or more.

I hate it when people ask a question on a forum and then are never heard from again. Thanks very much for the information.
I bought that Olds "in name only" trumpet for $99 and played it for about 3 months. I had to solder two braces and replace a missing pinky finger ring but other than that, the horn was in beautiful condition. It was an okay player but wanted better. Recently sold it on Ebay for $163 plus shipping so got my money back and was reimbursed for my time with the repair work. The repairing was actually just as enjoyable as the playing. I learned a lot.

I am happy you took the time to reply, David. It is annoying when you offer help and never hear back.
I am awaiting my 1939 Olds Recording that is in transit. Now that is a real Olds and can't wait to play it.

GeorgeGeorge, check Rodd Stewart's Olds registry. He is the best expert on connecting serial numbers. He states the Recording was not produced until 1942.

Thanks for the link, Doc.
'39, '42, whatever, doesn't matter to me all that much. My understanding is that the early years of the Recordings were the best and it looks like I now own one of them.
