Before I answer that question, let me write a little about the past few months. I haven't been on the boards since February 2022.
Back then, was inquiring about an Olds (by name only) trumpet that was available on Ebay. It was in really nice condition, so I bought it, cheap. It has worked well for me during my relearning period of getting back to playing the trumpet, but I really wanted to find an Olds Ambassador. This horn is now back on Ebay and will probably get me a hundred dollars or so. The current bid is $89 with 4 days to go.
I have a 1972 Olds Ambassador cornet that is in fairly nice condition and has been enjoyable to play during my trumpet relearning experience, but I really wanted to find an Olds Ambassador trumpet to be its mate. The problem has been trying to find one in reasonably good condition without a ridiculous price attached to it.
Finally, about a week and a half ago I found one to my liking. In fact, it's now in my possession. I am really excited about this, and the story is almost unbelievable.
This 1971 Ambassador trumpet was owned by a gentleman who is a native of Hawaii. He learned to play the trumpet when he was 7 years old and eventually played semi-pro.
During this period, when he was in high school, he was in a trumpet playing competition with 300 other players. He won first place and the prize was a brand-new Olds Ambassador trumpet, serial number, 754552.
Since he already had a good quality horn in service, he put this one away and during all of these years, he only removed it annually for greasing the slides and oiling the valves. It was never pressed into service.
Prior to shipping it to me, he had a music instrument repair house check it over. It only needed new water key pads and the felt valve pads. Everything else is original.
This horn now in my possession. My newly acquired prize Ambassador is absolutely mint, almost like it first stepped out of the Fulton factory. In fact, the case also looks brand new and even has both keys that originally came with it.
Like I said, most Olds Ambassador horns available now are well played and look like it. It's really nice to have a horn that is virtually brand new but was manufactured the old-fashioned way with quality parts and workmanship.
I was thinking of posting some pictures but not sure if the newness of this horn would really show up.
There is a serious problem that I am having right now that may cost me my 33-year marriage.
My wife is insisting that the Ambassador trumpet should no longer be allowed in our bed at night. She claims the cold brass is uncomfortable on here back when she accidently touches it. Is she being unreasonable?
