@Kehaulani the cylindrical provides more resistance, and it was a bit too much for me. I like a horn to be a bit more free blowing, but not too much. This conical slide was a great balance for me compared to an elliptical.

I played them at NAMM around 2012-2013, but don’t remember much about them other than I walked away and didn’t go back. I do find it interesting that the best review they could find to put on the website was from someone who doesn’t want to play them, but that has nothing to do with this thread. If any of them are going to Wayne Tanabe for repairs I’m pretty sure they’re not coming back damaged, though.

Ok, there have been enough misunderstandings in this thread now. I think we all now know what happened, and most of us would agree that inconsiderate behaviour in a band is not helpful, whosoever might be the perpetrator, and that some band directors are stricter than others regarding this issue.

In Dr. Go's resurrection of this thread, I decided to go back and reread it and I discovered that I had played longer than I thought. That's not the important thing, but it reminded me of my first pay gig.

I was about 15 and it was at the Pearl Harbor Rec. Center. Played for a bunch of swabbies on the prowl. I wonder how many of you remember Combo Orcs books - intro, top, bottom, out. Great music. 😌

Got to watch the swabbies and the jarheads (sorry flugelgirl) fighting over their football game on the way home. As the saying goes, watched the fights and a football game broke out.

@Trumpetsplus great idea. If we have a player buy a rotary instrument in house I show them care in person, but since we are an online business we have few customer visits by appointment only. We’re working on a care sheet to send with purchases - lucky the woodwind tech has a degree in graphic design, so we should be able to set up some nice instructions.

I wrote this before but can't find it, so . . .

I knew of McCoy for years but kind of took him for granted as just another one of many excellent players. But I had a girl friend who was a jazz piano player and one day she demonstrated a bunch of McCoy's voicings, etc. on piano for me, he was a mentor of her's, and . . wow! There was more there than met my eye.

It's on PBS every Saturday here. I watch it because Welk had a lot of damn good musicians in his band and some really talented singers, too. But Welk himself was a bit on the corny side in my view anyway. But hell, it is the only commercial big band music on tv these days.

WOW, a year already...

I never cared much for most of his music. Seemed to me better suited as background for The Dating Game. But as a producer he's one of the best. And a side of him that is perhaps overshadowed by his musical work is his humanitarian work. He's a personification of "passing it on".

An example of his personal good heart was when I found out that, on Chet Baker's return after a long hiatus, the night of the concert Herb found out that Chet had no trumpet and Herb drove home, picked up his own trumpet, and loaned it to Chet for the gig. Man, that's going the extra mile. I got a whole new of appreciation for Herb Alpert the man. Happy Birthday!
