RE: The Seven C's
Yep, the Grand Staff "messes" up your second point. Here's an interesting read on solutions to the confusion the Grand Staff can cause. The solutions are clever, I think.

RE: Is Air Needed To Play The Trumpet
I've never understood folks that think you can play without air. If one could, there would be no need for breathing exercises. Now I just need to buy an artificial electric drill tongue! Might be inefficient with all the new equipment I have to learn to use.

RE: Anyone like fishing? (when taking a break from Trumpet, that is...)
I do want partial credit for "knowing" that that was a Shimano lure!!

RE: The Seven C's
There is now a lively discussion about this over THere! All I did was post the same picture. Apparently it is an issue with many other instruments as well. What I gleaned from the posts was that the ITG designated "C" as the starting point for octaves with trumpets in the 70's. So what I've learned about scales starting at A is now "wrong"? BTW, no one is really saying anyones wrong, it's just pancakes vs. flapjacks.
The top image is flapjacks, the bottom is pancakes.

@Kehaulani Someone keeps blowing life into it and it's not a breath of fresh air!

Howdy, boys (and girls). I somehow just discovered this today. I see lots of friendly avatars from 7+ years of TM-ing, including Vulgano Brother, who is neither Vulgano, nor my brother, but we can still love him for who he is and the work he does. I see TobyLou notified pretty much everyone else but me 6 months ago. No hard feelings though, Toby. You should see Guido sometime after 11:00 this evening.
Dang, this feels like coming home.
A few quick questions: How can I improve my range in 3 easy steps, but only practicing 5 minutes a day? Is double high C the one below the staff? Miles Davis or Freddie Hubbard? Is there balm in Gilead? Where does Rowuk hide his secret collection of P.E.T.E.s? Here's a video of me playing a song I've never practiced before, can you please critique? Is Kenny G still considered the best jazz artist of all time? Oh, and where's the Argument Clinic?
Controversial opinion of the day: Game of Thrones is dumb - change my mind.
Put away your pitchforks; that was a joke.
Alright, I'm here. Let the loud screaming sword fight begin!
NO NO NO!!!!!! I informed EVERYONE, especially you!! I'm ready for Guido, tell him not to bring a knife!

RE: I played a D# !!

I'm asking about the OP. Thad Mel had some awesome blowers.
It's a Nestico chart called Color Me Warm, and the 3rd part has a lick that starts on G above the staff, going to D, then D#. For 4 years I've played that down an octave, but a few weeks ago tried and found I was on the notes. I certainly don't "command" anything above B. But reaching for, and finding these notes, is to me kind of like cracking the lid on a jar, and it is getting easier, less of a squeak.

En realidad, si actualizo la página, ¡aparece una opción para traducir! Ah los milagros de internet. ¡No hay necesidad de construir eso en TBoard!

Bill Chase used to use long-tones to increase range.
The answer, once again, is long-tones!

RE: The hammered bell
@Niner said in The hammered bell:
@FranklinD That's interesting. It's not a dead proposition. The main things the bell shaft dings are claimed to produce are:
Improved sonority: more warmth, more substance, fuller tonal sound
Improved balance of sound: enhancement of wanted, and reduction of unwanted frequencies
Improved projection: more power and better carrying capacity of the sound
Reduced blowing resistance: improved and easier responsiveness, therefore improved slottingThat's it? Hmm.

After the first couple of licks, I really questioned whether or not this was Maynard. Thanks for the info. This is Maynard:
