Bought this for very little not knowing much about it. Thought the unique design would go good on the wall. But it looks too good and plays too well for that. From what i read the Director models before the 50's were pro horns, and its pretty rare too. Ebay doesn't even show one. But after reading a LOT of info on Conn their many models make more sense to me;) Pics coming if i can make i-Pad work.

RE: Buescher Trumpets
I know somewhere in the mid to late 60's, they no longer used that classic Buescher valve block. Kind of a generic looking one. Probably used up all the parts they had then something else. Just HOW MANY brands did Selmer buy out? Obviously, Selmer was run better and was profitable, and most likely other brands didn't adapt fast enough.

RE: Jazz Song #2 - Take Five
I'm in the cheap seats, wearing a Montana #19 jersey. Barely got out of Houston unscathed. Nasty crowd come the 4th quarter. Not all, but enough.

They read the first few words and boom, the brain is working on solving the problem....
This can be a mechanic thing too. Or just a man thing as my girlfriend points out. She starts out talking about a problem, wondering about it and trying to understand it, and my simple "man brain" tries to solve it;)

RE: Buescher Trumpets
Might explain it. Probably is a mid line or intermediate.

RE: What Does The Tongue Do When The Trumpet Is Played
I'm in the same place Rapier. I have tried to play with tongue arch and roll in, but it just won't click. Probably hard to break with the way i have always played. Also pretty sure my range has been limited by my playing style though. Why i have been experimenting.

RE: Buescher Trumpets
Its also braced more like an Olds Special. Probably why it tends to resonate more......

Buescher Trumpets
I have only had a handful of Bueschers over the last 3 years, but am extremely impressed with them. The first 2 were "400's" so it was expected to be a good horn. Got my first "Aristocrat" recently, their student line, and It appears to have gotten the same valve block as the 400. Damn near a work of art. This was roughly a 59 model. 60 years old and cleaned up nicely. No dents, just a rough finish. Shame their isn't a better market for them. Appears to be better built than even the Olds models of the same era. Around 63, Buescher was sold, and the name was around a while, but they were not the same quality.

RE: Best Valves
Just remembered. Did get a King Cleveland 600 recently that looked great on the outside. Appears the plastic parts of the valves are melted, making even the caps extremely hard to remove. Or, someone filled it with epoxy. Strange. I like these horns though, they are good student horns. Tough and easy to play. I have bought and sold several, so its a parts horn till i find something that will dissolve whatever it is. Not really a bad valve issue, but interesting;)

RE: What about non-trumpet Brass players
I started off on T-Bone in 6th grade, and switched to Trumpet for 2 reasons. Trumpets got to shine a lot more, not be in the background. And in Jr High, there were a LOT of good looking girls in the trumpet section;) Still not sure which reason was most paramount to my decision;)

RE: Best Valves
Over a 100 used horns bought and sold, mostly vintage student horns with a few better ones in the mix, and i have yet to see "bad" valves either. If one sticks, there is a reason. Something that can be as simple as a worn felt allowing the valve to go a hair too far down. I had a few Conn trumpets i never fixed. Valve casings had to be warped, or bent, or something like that. But its rare.

RE: Game of Thrones Thread
When seeing this thread before, i missed the first post showing Peter Dinklage playing trumpet. Pretty cool actor. He made GOT. Saw him 10 years ago in a scifi series called "Theshold" He was great in it too.
