@Kehaulani I lived on Oahu from 1977 to 2007 in Wahiawa, Pearl City, Palolo, Waikiki and, from 1990, on my boat either in Ke'ehi Lagoon or in the Ala Wai. Sailed back for a year-long visit in 2011/12, then sailed up here to Alaska. BTW, she worked at Anna Bannana's on Beretania Street, just off University.
I think Anna's is still there. Is that associated with Anna O'Brien's?
Trading Hawai'i for Alaska? Jeez.
Although I go back regularly, I started touring in 1966, so haven't resided there since then. I go back to when our mail didn't have zip codes but "TH". The days of Lucky Luck, Lippy Espinda and Prince Neff Maiava :-). The band uniform in my avatar, BTW, is from McKinley H.S.
Anyway, Aloha luna.

Kehaulani is a popular women's name but men can use it.
When were you in Honolulu? -
RE: Does anybody want to talk trumpet?
@Bob-Pixley Yes, but the leadpipe, as important as it is, is only the first part of a whole (excluding mouthpiece). One horn maker may make a larger leadpipe but compensate on the horn's effect further down the line, and vice versa.

But therein lies the rub. I would rather learn learn teach. I enjoyed posts by those who had experience beyond mine from which I could learn or contribute.

Does anybody want to talk trumpet?
Self-explanatory. Jokes, pretty pictures, etc. No reason why posters wouldn't want to kick back and talk about a variety of things, but I would see that as a diversion, not a primary activity.
This is not to be mean-spirited or judgmental in the least, but just a reason, personally, for how I want to spend my time on the internet. If we can't come up with a greater proportion concerning things trumpet, I'll probably just drop in from time to time to say "hi". (Not that anybody cares, . )
Anybody want to talk about alternate chord changes or phrasing in the Haydn?

Is Chuck rose anything like Bird lives?

@Kehaulani But that is what is happening with Coronation Brass - every single year! And somehow, it works!
What if the music was passed out 3 hours in advance and the group rehearsed it from then until 15 minutes before the concert? That's the type of lip abuse I was talking about - casual musicians being rehearsed to death right up to the time of the concert.
Absent other extenuating circumstances, sounds to me like ineffective rehearsal technique.
You know, a good rehearsal technique not only pertains to musical preparation, but choosing a manageable program, so you don't have to have a last-minute rehearsal.

It's a good reminder to not leave anything in the passenger compartment of your car in plain view . .
I had a friend who had multiple instruments stolen from the passenger area in his car, which was always parked on the street between one of the country's main music conservatories and the train station, which all students took.
When asked if his car was broken into, he said "No", his windows were rolled down.
"What?! You wereparked on a public street which was trafficked by scores of music students with your car windows rolled down?"
His excuse?
"Yeah, man, but it was hot and I had left my horns like that for a week with no problems." -
Threads in reverse order?
Would you consider posting threads in reverse chronological order? As it is now, the newest thread goes at the end of a list, resulting in one's going to page three, for example, to read the most current thread.
I can see the eventual situation where one has to scroll over several pages of threads before reaching the end instead of going directly to the latest.

RE: Artist on BOARD
I wouldn’t limit the field quite so much, . . there are many, many fine artists who I admire a lot who would bristle at the comment that their paintings look like photographs.
Thank you BigDub. I haven't responded, but this theme keeps recurring, so . .
I'm tired of a default position by some that higher education and artistic vs. materialistic pursuits equal elitism. Are there people who fit that? Darn right. But there is also reverse elitism and I've known people with lower educations and materialistic views who also are limited to being journeymen and without imagination and impractical, as well. Each group contains both.
Thank you for not being silently acquiescent.

You get that tree in and change the sky to purple and there might be a future for you on PBS.

RE: Community Band
I agree. I have a good director friend who routinely would have rehearsals while on the road and also the days of the concert. And he became very successful, so . . . But OTOH, I don't recall ever doing that. In my opinion, the music should be well played in and ready to go before a tour began. I would rather spend my time off around the pool.

Shlivowitz. I love Shlivowitz!
Many good times with it - not that I remember. -
Free lancer interview. Interesting thouhts.
I came across an interview of Kathy White, clarinetist, on the experiences of how to get jobs, how to milk them for what they're worth, expectations and other thoughts of a free lance classical musician. Good way to spend a little more than 20 minutes. See Freeway Philharmonic: Kathy White.
