    • RE: Is there such a thing as a “natural player”?

Yes, there are naturals. We look at some and say, no wonder they're good, just look at their work ethic. But some were born geniuses to begin with, and that natural ability gives them incentive to tirelessly capitalize on it. Hence, genius first, work ethic next.

There are those who are very good who are pointed out as naturals but they're just hard and smart workers. The existence of one doesn't negate the existence of the other..

And, while we're on the subject, there are those who are born without certain skills and aptitude, no matter how hard they try.

I've worked with too many naturals, as well as been around those who, no matter how hard they try, just cannot get it.

The answer was some light hand lapping of the pistons plus replacing the Bach springs with Jupiter springs.

    • Musician Jokes

Does anyone have any favourite Musician Jokes? Here are a couple favourites to start things off:

Jazz tenor player Zoot Simms, a prodigious drinker, was leaving a club one evening, booze glass in hand. He stumbled, did a forward summersault and came back up standing upright. With the drink still in his hand.

Another time, Zoot was walking down a street when a beggar came up to him asking for a handout. Zoot reached in his pocket, gave the man some money and said, "Now don't do anything foolish like go out and spend it on food".

    • RE: Circular Breathing

Almost anything continued for too long outwears it's welcome. It becomes static. I don't call the example communication, I call it pandering. And, IMO, his solo had almost no substance.

    • RE: Old Photo

Those nostalgia photos made me grin. So here's one of my first pop band, "The Tikis". Dig the instrumentation, LOL. (One of the guitar players played piano though, the guitar for photo convenience. Still . . )

    • RE: Tough Decision to make

One could spend months, and dollars, trying all the myriad mouthpiece and horn brands and models. in combinations. If anyone wants to, it's your time. Have at it. If I'm horn shopping, I go on the assumption that I'll use the same mouthpiece, not be looking to change that, too. So, mpc. is a given, then try other horns. Other wise the option combinations are legion. Like I said, your time.

    • RE: Tough Decision to make

Are we talking about a versatile, professional musician or a guy from off the street* who just wants a horn that plays well and makes him feel good?

    • RE: Buying a new home audio system

I'm a simple guy, too. Sound first, technology . . meh. Give me a set of KLH speakers and an Onkyo amp and I'm a happy guy.

I do agree with one thing, though. Check the equipment's input jacks. They are different on various equipment and don't take for granted that the ones you need are there.

    • RE: Tough Decision to make

Good grief. Isn't the OP's question simply which of two horns to buy? You play them both and pick the one that plays and sounds the best and is well built.. If it's a tie, go with nostalgia or it's mystique to you.

It's not rocket science or polemics or pseudo creative writing 101.
