She would have if she could have. She was a little, shall we say, strict. Card carrying Anabaptist.

I had just bought a record by Jackie Cane and Roy Kral and hadn't even heard it, yet. There was a line in the lyrics that said, "don't give a damn" and she popped up and gave me a tongue lashing saying, "I didn't think you were that kind of boy". Sheesh.

My dad always talked about a place in Honolulu during WWII named Lao-Tse Chow. The proprietor was Wun Hung Lo.

Wun Hung Lo was actually the brother of author Hung Tu Low, who wrote "Over the High Hurdles".

To the best of my recollection, they were all excellent musicians. Trumpeters Dick Cathcart, Johnny Zell, Warren Leuning, et al. I enjoyed the Dixieland segments - Pete Fountaine, Big Tiny Little, Jo Ann Castle.

I've known some and I used to work with the guitar player's son. He (the father) didn't like Welk very much and it was mutual. But he said it was a good way to keep the wolf away from the door. But a lot of their music? An American precurser of Andre Rieu.

We always watched the show. Nana (Swiss grandmother) loved it. I usually got thrown out of the living room for running my mouth off, LOL,

That's funny. I ran across a Chinese restaurant in Salzburg named the Fu King. We had a lot of fun coming up with advertising variations on that name.

BTW, that was around the corner from Schmuck Allee.

That was the funniest post I’ve seen in weeks! As hard as I could look, I really couldn't see their posts. How were you able to see around that piano?

That was national, prime-time T.V. I'm, sure they have some kind of censorship laws that would apply. And that was an electronic piano and those things can be pre-programmed to play any melody with the flip of a switch.

On a similar note (chillin' in the Keys), here's where I spent much of my time. The strip of sand. Makapu'u Point.

      And doing what? Body surfing.

Well, you know how it worked out for Ernest Hemmingway?

Mental stability has an impact, wouldn't you agree? Location would not likely be the reason.

Ernest Hemmingway struggled with depression his entire life. As a result of a plane crash and increase in his mental and physical injuries he was seduced into alcoholism. During this period, he became more ill, got more and more depressed and his life ended with a gunshot. Was it self inflicted? We don't know, but he certainly had the substrate to doing this, but let's please not make a parallel to Key West as a major influence to his ultimate demise.

Good Lord, man. o you know how to take a joke?

    • RE: Introducing Lis Sorensen

First discovered her on a tour of northern Denmark at a time of the year when the sun never sets. Laying on the bed back in my room at 2:00 in the morning after a night of playing and partying and walking through grassland to get back. Nothing like it. (What am I doing here?!)

    • RE: Boorish Band Behavior

Back to the topic at hand, in all the ensembles I directed or played in (with a rare exception here or there), the normal rehearsal etiquette has always been to wait until there was an obvious pause in the music or rehearsal before being seated. If it's a problem, I would take it up with either the Musical Director or the musician directly, depending on theirs and/or your position.
