RE: Star Spangled Banner
Here's a good explanation of her use of more current techniques, BTW, I appreciate the effort but think it's one rehearsal short or full preparation. IMO, it could be a little more comfortable and free with the stretched musical elements.

RE: Star Spangled Banner
There's a BIG difference in Lady Gags's interpretation and many others. Her's, while modern, was respectful, at the same time modern with a use of contemporary harmonies and rhythms. It was emotional as a means of singing tribute to those fallen, yet avoided the hot-dogging, melismas of many of her predecessors.

RE: R.I.P. Sammy Nestico
Yes, and his orchestration had surprising depth.
I remember getting into a (harrumph) "discussion" with a conductor colleague about my use of only one bassoon when it was written for four. My philosophy was that people can't miss something they don't know was there. I don't think I've ever done that piece with all four bsns. yet, it never seemed to make a difference to the listeners. That's masterful writing.

RE: Just Purchased a Conn 20A.
I've got a 20A. Use a Curry Vingage5. Play it solely for Beiderbecke era type music. I don't notice much adjusting except it feels a little more open than playing my trumpets. Could be the mouthpiece, don't know-don't care.

BTW - played and conducted that version of "Battle Hymn" hundreds of times, if not more. Stock for the trade and a classic.

RE: R.I.P. Sammy Nestico
I spent most of my developing years, and early professional years, playing a lot of music by Art Wigggins and Sammy Nestico. I was raised, tangentially, around the Air Force and was in that service, early in my career. I think both of these guys were in the A.F. at the time.
Nestico was a masterful writer. I thought, after a while, that he got a little redundant, but his control of composing/arranging techniques was outstanding.
Music aside, his arranging book is excellent and shows, not only a masterful understanding of his tools, but a very practical use of them.

RE: Brands used by Famous Players
@dr-go There are great players all over the place playing Committes, no doubt about it.
But, I have worked extensively in over half the US. states and, I don't know maybe 26 countries, with different groups and different genres and I have never seen a Committee. -

Content, my friend, is what this site needs. Content.

RE: Complete Beginner
Start with the "Standards of Excellent" series and move to either Harold Mitchell's; "Mitchell on Trumpet", or the "Belwinn" trumpet series, I prefer the Mitchell.
Later, you'll want to take a look at "Arban for Cornet". I pesonally think you'll get better use of the "Arban" at the intermediate level.
Eric Bolvin has organized the "Arban" trumpet Bible into a reasonable organization of the "Arban", which skips around a lot. It's better to wait until you're an intermediate player before starting to work out in "Arban".
BTW, there are too many videos of conflicting information on YouTube, even from well-known players. I'd stay away from them until you're a more mature player and can best discriminate the conflicting info. Remember, YouTube does not have any discrimination on who posts a video and some top pedagogues may be irascible and have "rough" formats, while amateur posters with good media chops. can make their presentations very appealing.
Welcome to the Trumpet community.

RE: Brands used by Famous Players
Jerico answered it.
And BTW, plese note that, while there were many players playing the Committee, in a certain era. very few play them now. -
RE: Famous Signature Songs
No one knows any other Signature Songs by legendary players?

RE: Special music reading glasses
I measured the distance from eye to music stand, then had bifocals made. Bottom lens for reading music, top lens (distance) for seeing conductor, MD, crowd. Work with your optometrist.

RE: test post just testing
Print is still too light. Is there a way to darken it?

RE: thread test
Is there a way to darken the "Reply" text. It's the lightest on the page?

RE: thread test
@dale-proctor - why? Compared with that lumbering, archaic format on TH, I think this is a breath of fresh air. Now to bring the substance of posts up to the same level.

Can't read the forum members' responses well, at all.
