Just do what members of Duke Ellington's orchestra did: memorize it all. Problem solved.

From the radio:
Dolphins have shown their intelligence by training humans to come to the edge of their pool and throw them food.

RE: Difference between trumpet and cornet
@richard-iii said in Difference between trumpet and cornet:
How about this? The cornet mouthpiece has a smaller hole at the end than a trumpet mouthpiece. Smaller hole means less air. Smaller hole means though conical after that they can be the same, the smaller hole always starts smaller and therefor the totality of the conical nature will always be greater.
It's my understanding that throat size is comparable between trumpet and cornet mouthpieces and that if bore measurement is taken the same distance from the rim, those diameters will be comparable, too. The difference is that more of what is considered to be the backbore of a trumpet mouthpiece is included in the leadpipe of a cornet.

RE: A little humour
More from the airwaves:
A father takes his daughter to work with him on the appropriate day. He shows her around his workplace, and after a short while, the girl starts crying. "What's the matter, Sweetheart?" asks the father as his co-workers look on. The daughter replies loudly: "Where are all the clowns you keep saying you work with?"

RE: Phony players
@BigDub said in Phony players:
I have a question that someone Might have some insight on.
There are plenty of instances and occasions when a tv show or motion picture portrays a trumpet player, or any other instrument, for that matter.
Anyway, why is it that almost 100% of the time, the person doing the playing has no clue how to play.
Any idea how this came to be?Hollywood hubris.

RE: Absence explained (mother passed away...)
@ButchA Please accept my sincere sympathy on the passing of your mother.
You'd be surprised and disheartened to know how often people reveal their unimaginable ugliness after a death in the family. It's closer to the norm than you'd want to believe. When my mother died, a couple of her beneficiaries tried to prevent me from receiving my portion of her will. I got the court involved, and the judge quickly put an end to their disputes.
On the other hand, when my mother-in-law died, my wife's male sibling (He in no way qualifies for the term "brother"... nor "son" nor "husband" nor "father", for that matter.) found a lawyer who specialized in contesting wills, the result of which was that, even though my wife and I were in the right, the entire experience cost us an astronomical amount of money, which would have been substantially more had we gone to court and not settled instead.
Most of the money went to our attorney. The rest went to the male sibling, who had to use almost all of it to pay his lawyer, who dropped dead himself eight months later.
And don't get me started on predatory funeral expenses....

RE: Four on the Floor (Bachs, that is…)
Will you try to better Gunhild Carling by playing them all at once?

RE: A little humour
@BigDub When my wife and I checked in to Hotel Monteleone in the French Quarter in New Orleans, after greeting us, the doorman said "Hello Benji" to our dog. We asked him how he knew our dog's name, and he replied that he didn't; he just thought she looked like the star of the movie of the same name (which is why I named her "Benji" in the first place).

RE: Taps Across America
Mine had its moments, mostly good. Cracked a couple of notes, though. Never did that before. The video will not be released.

RE: Curry Mouthpieces
@Dale-Proctor I haven't gotten my hands on a Bach 3 to measure for comparison, but I, like you, suspect that the difference between it and the Benge could be the spelling.

Heard this yesterday:
When driving in a country where one drives on the left side of the road,
The left side is the right side;
The right side is suicide. -

RE: A little humour
An oldie, but it gives me a chance/excuse to comment:
Q. What is the shortest period of time ever measured?
A. The period of time between the traffic light changing to green and the driver behind you blowing their horn in New York City (a.k.a. a New York second).My uncle (since deceased) never had this problem, as he would always launch before the light changed to green.
He lived in Brooklyn, not far at all from John Gotti's home. He and my aunt lived in a co-op, and he had to park his car on the street. Well, one day his car wouldn't start. He checked to see what was wrong, and the battery was gone. He replaced the battery, and the next time he went to his car, it was gone. Apparently the thieves didn't want starting problems, so they made sure my uncle's car had a new battery before they stole it.
