Keep TrumpetBoards a community. Most of us here are humans; we have lives, and virtually all things in our lives affect our approach to the trumpet to varying degrees, either directly, such as practice routines, techniques, etc. or subtly, such as health, approach to life, personality, musical preferences, and so on. There is and has been room for participation in varied subjects, some related to trumpet and some not.

We can demonstrate a willingness to help others and share with others that which interests us and find a commonality and diversity among us that enriches all. All knowledge is useful; it's what makes us continue to grow and mature in our trumpet playing and in all aspects of life itself.

I would not enjoy nor often participate in a forum that is restricted and reduced to a narrowly focused catalog of equipment and pedagogy. There are other trumpet websites that fit this description, and they have at best less the sense of community, and I daresay family, that we found on TrumpetMaster and now find on TrumpetBoards. We can have all the trumpet-related information and discourse possible here without resorting to being restricted to a membership of humorless, narrow-minded automatons.

... trumpet never hurt me with girls either....

In high school, trumpet players and majorettes tended to gravitate toward one another. This was in pre-PC times, when appearance was a requirement to be a majorette, so they ranged from cute to unforgettable. Oh, also... if you didn't maintain a "B"/3.0 average in your classes, you couldn't be in Band. That was a win-win for trumpet guys! But I digress....

While the lips vibrate, producing a sound, it is my understanding that this is consequential to forming the lips to do so, rather then the result of a deliberate buzzing into the mouthpiece. You can buzz your lips and then add a mouthpiece, but when you do, you may or may not continue making a sound. You can create a sound on a mouthpiece and then remove the mouthpiece from your lips, and when you do, you may or may not continue making a sound. You can play a certain pitch on a mouthpiece, and chances are that that pitch will not translate into the same pitch when you insert the mouthpiece into the horn. Also, if you're making a nice sound on your horn and then remove the mouthpiece, chances are that there will be no sound, other than some air passing through your lips and the mouthpiece. If you change nothing and put the mouthpiece back into the horn, the same pitch and quality will return. It's all about the interaction between the player and the instrument.

There has been a lot of discussion about the production of sound in brass instruments, ranging from technical to ignorant. Curiosity must be satisfied, but the important thing is to produce good-sounding music with the least amount of effort. That is the goal for which we all strive and sometimes agonize over.

From a layman's perspective, does not electronic communication rely on electric pulses perfectly following their paths with the precise voltage and duration? And considering the physical size of the hardware, is it possible that electronic pulses can, due to extreme miniaturization, sometimes follow a path not intended by its designers, creating unexpected errors which can be difficult to trace or replicate, yet nevertheless cause a program to function abnormally?
