Thanks for sharing and your kind words Dale.
Previously I bought many horns for the experiences too. Need to work on improving my playing skills.
Once I purchased modern day professional horns never looked back. Thought about buying the same model cornet in different finishes. Although from different stencilled PRC suppliers, that is what happened.
Starting over from a four year absence can be joyful but very annoying too.
Have slowly improved but not yet back to where I was in the past. Using my old method books measures my progress.
I am waiting on the How to practice Jazz book.

RE: Universal copper top and bottom valve caps
As a very amateur comeback hobbyist player these cornets are good enough for my needs.
Buying these Chinese cornets does stop me for running up my credit card.
In the past, I have owned many used vintage, student, intermediate horns. Also several modern professionals trumpets.
Quit playing for four years and I am shocked at the current price of used horns.
I bought my new ACB doubler for less than a beat up intermediate cornet on eBay.
Both cornets together are cheaper than a used quality professional cornet. -
RE: Universal copper top and bottom valve caps
Great suggestion Stumac.
Did swap out the top and bottom valve caps of the cornets. Silver cornet now has copper colored top and bottom caps. Copper cornet has silver top and bottom caps. Both the cornets looking much better visually to me.
Now I looking for silver valve caps the same style of the copper cornet. My first priority is silver bottom caps.
Until proven otherwise I think Jim Laab music is my best source for caps.
One of my major goals is to spend the least amount of money on cornet parts. Trying to only spend money on valve oil, slide grease and the jazz/ blues instruction books. -
RE: Conn.Coprion student ? trumpet.
I have owned many vintage student horns including a Conn Director Coprion trumpet.
Many of the non professional horns were not taken care of by band students. Never did find the mythical unicorn student horn.
The vintage student horns drastically limited my playing enjoyment.
Yes I regret not buying a professional horn sooner.
Once I bought a professional horn noticed the drastic improvements in sound quality, intonation, projection etc.
Since my comeback I play modern day professional doubler cornets.
One of my cornets is copper colored and the other silver. -
RE: Universal copper top and bottom valve caps
Thanks Dale for the information and photo of your cornet.
Waiting on email from Jim Laab music on valve caps options. The caps from the Schiller do fit on the ACB cornet. -
RE: Universal copper top and bottom valve caps
@Dr-GO
Thank you for the information. Have not decided yet what the budget we be for the caps -
RE: Universal copper top and bottom valve caps
Looking for copper, bronze or gold color caps for the silver color cornet.
Surprisely parts are interchangable between my PRC rebranded cornets.
The newest cornet I bought is a copper color. Tried the valves caps on the silver cornet, they fit and look good.
Yes it is mostly visual. Want lightweight caps for the cornet.
Definitely want the least expensive option. -
Universal copper top and bottom valve caps
Looking for a copper colored top and bottom valve caps.
Did not have any luck researching the ACB or Schiller websites.
Also do not want to buy from KGU. The price is above what I want to pay for the caps.
On ebay there are several affordable caps but not sure of fit or quality.
Any recommendations would be appreciated. -
RE: Schiller elite pro Shepherds crook cornet
Today I received my recent inexpensive used cornet purchase from eBay. Cost of cornet was $85.00 dollars. Total cost was $106.75
Very impressed with the overall condition and it does look like a new horn.
Dissembled it and give it an extensive bath, cleaning, wipe down etc. Added fluids , reassembled the cornet and played it.
Did notice the excellent articulation, projection and ease of use.
Also noticed both of my cornets are identical in many ways; Other than the color it reminded me of my other PRC stencil cornet. Both cases are the same except for the logos. The valves and slides are interchangeable. The bottom curve of the shepherds crook is the same in both cornets.
Where it differs is the Schiller cornet has heavier valve caps than ACB cornet. Another difference is the unmarked mouthpiece is a different size than the other cornet.
My conclusion is both cornets were assembled in the same factory in China. -
Schiller elite pro Shepherds crook cornet
Won a bid on eBay for a used Schiller Elite Pro Shepherds Crook cornet. Expect it will be delivered by Saturday. Happy that it is not being delivered by USPS.
This is the third PRC rebranded cornet I bought this year.
As a hobbyist player the prices of these cornets do fit into my budget. I am very happy with my ACB doubler Shepherds Crook cornet.
Since my return from a four year absence, I am relearning how to play. -
St. James Infirmary
Looking for a book that contains St.James Infirmary, other songs of that era and genre.

RE: Hey everyone, I'm new here and wanted to say Hello
That we are all interested in playing a musical instrument is our connection.
Each person approach to our musical journey is different.
The advice on improving our musical talents is invaluable.
I am free from distractions of the G.A.S syndrome , flipping and now can focus on improving my skills. -
RE: Conn.Coprion student ? trumpet.
Dale you do have an eye for beautiful horns. Do love the Conn and Getzen horns. I have a long way to go until I feel confident in my abilities to buy another cornet.

RE: Oiling your trumpet.
Until recently I did use valve oil on the 1st and 3rd slide of my cornet. Like those slides fast. The downside was it did stain the slides. Now use ultrapure liquid slide grease.
I use LaTromba 3 light oil and do not have to apply as much as my previous used horns. But I practice 30 minutes 7 days a week. No gigs. -
RE: Conn.Coprion student ? trumpet.
One of my first trumpets was a Conn Coprion. Loved the color of the trumpet. Good student horn for the time and built like a tank.
Would love to find a copper professional horn. -

Welcome to the forum.
What horns do you play and what mouthpiece? How long have you been playing? What type of music do you like? -
RE: Oiling your trumpet.
@Anthony-Lenzo
Make sure you use light or medium valve oil. Are you using synthetic or oil based oils? -
RE: Goodbye adjustable finger ring
Love Retro mod horns. Comfort is my biggest motivation. If it makes it easier to play I am all for it.
Although I now only play modern horns, have in the past modified several horns. Did not hurt resale price at all.
Owners horn can do whatever they want with it. -
RE: New Guy from Ky!!
@Charles77
Welcome to the forum.
What brand, model and mouthpieces do you have? Have taken a lesson yet?
Do you play other instruments?
