Have owned many vintage cornets and Holton, Conn, Olds are excellent cornets. They are more consistent than modern day Bach horns.

Yes it is a student horn. But it punches above its weight. What mouthpiece do you use?

Yes I owned a Holton 605 Shepherds Crook. Excellent sound and well built. Sounded great with Denis Wick short shank mouthpieces.

Due to an awful cold I have been limiting my playing time.Almost back to normal so will be playing more .
Tried blowing on my cornet, no sound came out. Wiped down the valves and it plays fine. A huge bottle of blue juice came with this cornet.
Started playing the tenor sax and it does sound good. It came with cane reeds, neck strap, ligature and mouthpiece.
Of course I bought a new mouthpiece, ligature, neck harness and different strengths of Legere reeds.
Did not like the first neck harness and waiting on another one.
Now I am a doubler again.

With the patch does it still play sharp? Is this a vintage trumpet with sentimental value?
Is it worth it to get a second opinion?

I am tired of older used equipment that need repair.
Whether it works out or not we will see.
In the past spent to much money on cornets, trumpet, saxes, lessons and repairs.
Trying to limit buying more instruments , mouthpieces etc.
Just want to enjoy playing.

Thanks for advice. Played a Martin tenor sax for almost two years.
When I get my chops back I will buy a better tenor sax.
Have two sax coming in this week, Mendini tenor sax and King 613 alto sax.
I have ordered a Legere American cut Alto 2.5 synthetic reed and Legere American cut tenor synthetic reed
Have tried many natural reeds but prefer synthetic reeds.
As a hobbyist player I am happy with the current setup with my cornet.
Will see this week if I will be happy with the sax.

I bought a black colored Mendini tenor sax made in China. Should receive by Friday.
Since my cornets were made in the same factory in China decided to sell the ACB silver doubler cornet. More chance of getting a better price than the Schiller cornet.

Decided to become a comeback player on tenor sax. Any thoughts or information on playing both instruments??!

Have no problems with my horns in the cold Midwest. I live in Metro Detroit.

Great answer.

Maybe a diluted isopropyl alcohol solution in a spray bottle.

Take out all the old pieces. Use isopropyl alcohol to wash it out. Let dry.
Should fit in without using glue. Drop it in and use it.
Do think rubber works better.

Want to find the most efficient methods to ĺearn Jazz, Blues and R&B. Trying to optimize my practice times.
What books would you recommend ?
Currently I have the following Jazz books;
How to practice Jazz by Jerry Coker, Jazz Handbook by Jamey Aebersold Jazz, The Ultimate Jazz Handbook "C" Edition, Jazz Anyone, and Essential Elements for Jazz Ensemble.
Also have many other method books; Arbans , Traditions of Excellence, Technical studies for cornet, Rubank Elementary Method cornet, Roy Poper's commentaries on Brasswind methods of James Stamp.

Bought silver bottom caps from KGU. I have purchased from them in the past.
In the future I will buy after market silver top caps.

Yes I have done it on many horns. The rubber corks fit better and have a tighter seal. Not sure if the corks are a standard size on all horns.

I have owned other PRC cornets and yes it is definitely a crap shoot. I appreciate the tweaks ACB brass did on my cornet. The Wisemann took over a month to break in.
The Schiller was so cheap, thought the cost of any repair would be minimum.
Recently bought a Holton 602 RC it was made in Japan. It is a clone of Yamaha model.
Did find the bottom caps of the Holton and PRC cornets are interchangable.
Would the bottom caps of Yamaha trumpets and Yamaha cornets be the same size?
