No music, but I'm planning on doing an arduous snowshoe hike New Year's Day. We're planning on a minimum of 9 hours!

Gordon Mathie Passes Away
Just read this on the ITG website. I remember meeting Mr. Mathie about a decade ago at the Banff ITG Conference.

@Vulgano-Brother I agree. Where once their picc was the best lower cost option, it is not today. There are other options that are much better at the same price point or lower.
I agree. I would love to try out ACB's doubler rotary picc.

RE: Longineu Parsons II
There never seems to be a shortage of talent. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for gainful employment!

RE: Which picc?
Well, since this is public now, I'll put in my input.
I think @ACB has a fairly reasonable policy. They are a for-profit business, and nothing really is "yours" until you have put all the money down. Some companies offer layaway for a portion of the sales price.
I'm sorry it didn't work for you, @barliman2001. Hopefully, you'll find a good horn of equal or greater value.
As for piccolo, if I had money for one, I'd go buy a Scherzer 8111 (Silver, with the left-hand tuning trigger) and call it a day.

RE: Used prices?
That's how market forces work, though. Sometimes, people will sell something to you for a lower price out of altruism. I had that happen to me as a student. However, generally speaking, prices are what people are generally willing to pay for something.

I went fishing with my father-in-law and one of his friends, years ago. I looked at the fish flopping around in the boat gasping for air, slowly asphyxiating. Last time I went fishing.
Ha! I guess some people are more sensitive to "fish death" than others.

RE: Over 70 vintage trumpets and cornets!
Thanks! I'm liking my 2B so far. It's a 1927.

@administrator Matt got his start flipping horns for a few bucks while doing his undergrad in trombone performance. He kept up the hobby later on, and while working for Microsoft (his PhD is in microbiology)found that the hobby was paying more than the job and started flipping full time! Now itβs a growing company in need of more space, and a fantastic place to work
That's a cool story!

@Kehaulani life is short - enjoy the toys! I know, Iβm a horribly bad influence...
I'm curious, how did Quinn get his start? It sounds like a fun thing to do -- buy and sell vintage horns.

RE: Over 70 vintage trumpets and cornets!
Nothing like a vintage horn to brighten one's day. I mean, I love a Brand new trumpet, but a good vintage Conn, Mt. Vernon Bach, York...man, that really gets me excited. I want to start a collection now, haha.

I just bought a 2B and I love it! How does it compare with a 22B?

Just had a very disappointing experience with ACB. I had already put a John Packer picc (shop demo, at half price) into my online cart and had by e-mail declared that I wanted it and was just discussing with them how to handle the transfer of funds from Europe when they sent me an e-mail saying, sorry, the horn was just sold at a trade show, and would I want their beginners' picc, the ACB Doubler, instead?
Trent Austin, I respect you as a musician; but as a business man, this kind of going back on a sale already agreed upon would get you banned in Europe.
Well, let's give him a chance to respond and see how that goes.

I repeated a joke that drew a lot of likes on the on the old board and apparently it was deleted. I guess it must have been judged too much for this board.
Sorry, somebody flagged it.

You are offended by what? Explain it to me.
I don't think he's offended, just that maybe the joke was a little off color.

RE: Used prices?
I bought a used Strad once for $500. That was a good deal.

RE: Used prices?
Market, demand and such. If you want a very reasonably priced used instrument, go for an "off" brand that is still quality, e.g. Conn, CarolBrass vs Bach, Yamaha. Often you can find more reasonable prices and a very good instrument, sometimes better than the more well-known makes.

RE: Should I buy this rare, vintage Conn? I think I know the answer already...
I bought it. Man, it's been a long time. 5+ years. Will post photos soon. It's gorgeous.
