RE: C Trumpets: Bach vs Yamaha vs Vintage Besson vs....
@flugelgirl said in C Trumpets: Bach vs Yamaha vs Vintage Besson vs....:
I wouldn’t really go for a vintage C if you want something reliable unless you’re certain it’s in good condition. Many of them do not really have great intonation, and were built with a different sound concept in mind than what’s currently acceptable for an orchestral setting. However, I play a vintage Schilke, it plays quite well in tune, but I use it more for church services and brass quintet than anything else. My last C was a French Besson Classic and they are quite good for any situation- built by Kanstul and can be picked up at a fair price. Good one to look for - I only sold mine because it didn’t suit me as well as my Schilke does. We have plenty of Yamaha in stock, and my favorites are the Chicago and the NY with Malone bell. PM if you’re interested in one of them and I can tell you my personal favorites in stock as I play test them all. When testing, I check for intonation, resonance, and general ease of play, and if the horn meets that criteria and I could gig comfortably with it tomorrow, I recommend it first to customers.
www.brassandwinds.comThanks. I think that I will save up and purchase a Yamaha. They are incredibly reliable and hold their value. It's like a Toyota. You always know what you're getting. Maybe a bit "boring" in that regard, but it's a tool and those tools perform their job very well.

RE: Selmer Trumpet Bell Tapers?
I can tell you that my Radial bell is very, very large. I will have to measure it tomorrow to see precisely how large, but larger than almost all modern production trumpets.

I recently saw Trombone Shorty and Orleans Avenue in concert at the Tree House Brewery Summer Stage in Deerfield, Massachusetts. Needless to say it was an outstanding performance! Here’s a sample from our vantage point.
Not so short anymore!

What is this Conn?
I'm trying to sell this old Conn trumpet. I think it's a 2B, but I am not sure. Don't know what to ask for it yet.

Latest Steal
I picked this horn up for $250. First time I've owned a 43*. Yes, it needs several hundred dollars worth of repairs, but still a good deal in my mind.

I find use out of both websites. I also find use out of search engines.

I'm 34 and I doubt I will ever truly "retire." I think that is a common attitude among my generation.
So, with my new perspective as I noted above, have I become a part of your generation?
Perhaps!

RE: What's the best option here?
@rowuk said in What's the best option here?:
If the pictures really represented the horn, a buyer backing out is pretty lame. I think that it is a buyers market for a 2B and the condition (including the valves) would have to be exceptional to get much more than $300. Without knowing what other issues the horn has, I would suspect that investing will not match the returns.
If that's the case, I think I'd rather just hold onto it. It plays OK and I can always repair and sell it in the future.

Upgrading TrumpetHerald would be a full-time job for several months.

Which trumpet to buy?
Your administrator is looking to get back into trumpet playing. From the following choices, assuming I can afford whatever I purchase, which do you recommend?
-- Brand new Blackburn (I visit the shop and make my order there)
-- Brand new Yamaha artist series (I buy from local music shop)
-- Brand new Bach 190 (I buy from local music shop)
-- Used Blackburn (hopefully with trial period, but no guarantee)
-- Used Yamaha artist series (lightly used)
-- Used Bach 190 (lightly used)I'm looking for a general do-it-all horn and I am absolutely not interested in fussing with it. Just need something that is easy to play, especially for somebody with limited time on their hands. If you recommend another brand, please let me know.

RE: Cannonball Trumpets ???
I have played several of their models. I don't much care for the stonelined trumpets. I think their newer line (non-stonelined) are decent trumpets. Depending on the price, you can get a good horn for not much money. They were made by B&S, I'm not sure if that's still the case.
The company is based in SLC, Utah. They are primarily a saxophone maker but their trumpets are decent as well.

RE: Blessing Trumpets
Definitely not interchangeable. I believe they are even made by different factories.
