Took up trumpet as a child and went on to knock out quite a few decent tunes. Sadly he passed away at 91 after breaking his femur a few days ago.
This is a nice reading of my favourite Morricone number.

Dang, one of the all time greats. That's sad - I love his music. He wrote some great trumpet parts into his scores. I've likely posted this a million times previously, but the trumpet part at 1:50 makes me happy.

And if you happen to love cello (I do), this collaboration with Yo-Yo Ma will bring tears to your eyes.

            Pure crystallised independence of spirit!

Is it really 56 years ago? (Anyone remember Rowdy Yates?)

That's a great one - my dad had the soundtrack when we were kids. Went back and watched that movie again sometime last year. GBU puts both it's predecessors to shame, but the soundtrack is great.

If you want to play along with the outstanding music of Ennio Marricone, here is your chance courtesy of the great Andrea Giufreddi.

That's great, Steve. I've been looking for sheet music for The Trio for years.

In the Giufreddi series there are a lot of lip burners that are beyond my ability but I managed to play I Promessi Sposi but had to drop an octave on those high Cs near the end because my old chops were tiring. But, man, that was a pretty piece of music, and great playing by Giufreddi, of course.

A nice tribute article to Ennio Morricine in the New York Times:
