The New Reality

@GeorgeB
Thanks George -
Mrs. and I are both 67 y/o. We are ordering groceries for delivery, which has been working out OK. We are also keeping my 88 y/o mom supplied with groceries. I dropped off her portion of the latest order this morning. She is doing well. She has her very old standard poodle for company and Mrs. and I visit her once a week and share a meal. She (mom) is still an active accordionist, and while the band she leads is on hiatus she is working on some solo pieces. Her comment about her music making this morning was that “Brahms must have been crazy!” She asked me what I was working on now that my community band was no longer meeting. I told her that I was working on arrangements of Stardust and Moon River that require transposition, along with my normal stuff. Mrs. has been playing her piano more frequently, which I always enjoy. The last couple days, though, she has been captivated by a new jigsaw puzzle. All told, we three seniors are adjusting well enough to “The New Reality”.

Ravel’s Bolero -
I'm taking advantage of my band down time by transposing a handful of my favorite ballads to make them a bit more challenging. They are pieces like Black Orhpeus, Stella by Starlight, Laura, Stardust, etc., that I play quite often. Sometimes I go too far and have to go back a bit. Anyway, it's something to do.

Some creative mask use I have seen:
To me this one says: "Orange you glad I am not coughing on you"
I wonder if this one is wearing square pants:
So, do you put a lime in this one:
I am betting for this one, it's his time of the month to shop:
So to all of our members, stay safe out there and wear your masks however creative they may be.

This video was just posted on YouTube by Jens Linderman and introduced on Trumpet Herald by him 4 hours ago. It is titled, “A Hope For The Future” and is a tribute to the frontline healthcare workers around the world dealing with the Covid-19 Pandemic. It features 32 trumpet stars from around the world. It is outstanding in many ways to say the least!!!

Thanks for posting this, Steve

Thanks for posting this, Steve
You’re Welcome!!!
In a somewhat similar vein, Sarah Willis, on her “Horn Hangouts”, had about a dozen players of this caliber, some of whom are on this video, participate in an online one hour group video chat yesterday. Currently it can be found on her Facebook site, and I suspect it will turn up on her YouTube Channel soon. There was not a lot of technical advice or opinion of any earth shattering nature, but what it demonstrated best to me was that these “giants of the field” are just as human as you and I, and although we may place them on pedestals in our admiration of their skills and accomplishments, when they put their guards down, they like to have a good time, just like we do on this site. It also showed that although they are outliers in their skill sets, they also have vulnerabilities in their playing. I won’t get into specifics, so judge for yourself. -
Two months before the start of “The New Reality” this video was released. They must have been clairvoyant.

Mahler No. 2- Resurrection Sympjony
The conductor, Karel Mark Chichon has put together a Mahler-2 highlights video with 79 home-bound musicians of the Orquesta Filarmónica de Gran Canaria and his wife, soprano Elina Garanca. This was all put together with 80 separate cellphone videos. -
@SSmith1226
That was a marvelous production. Those truly talented musicians put their heart and souls into this. I could feel the emotion of it all. Thanks for the clip, Steve. -
@GeorgeB
Here is a simpler production. It is Rod Stewart and his daughter Ruby putting on 20 minute informal Easter Day concert from their home in Florida. -
And here’s another one. It is quite uplifting. It came today in an Email from New Horizons Music. It is performed by a very talented young girl.
“Just Me And My Euphonium”
-
Yeah, this is cute. A bandmate, ( a female doctor ) who plays the Euphonium in our band sent this to me a few days ago. And she also plays trombone like the little girl in the video.

@GeorgeB
I also sent this to a friend of mine, another trumpet player, who felt that this was a professional level production. He looked at the credits at the end and saw that girl’s father, Paul Langford, was involved in the production. He should be very proud of his daughter’s performance. The following are some of Paul Langford’s credits as provided to me by my friend.Paul Langford

Here is “The Afro Latin Jazz Alliance” with two “virtual shows”. They normally play at Bird Land, but now play from home. They are not on YouTube yet, but here are links to both.
