Sorry Doc. You are a Doctor, who plays trumpet. You are not a trumpeter that plays doctor.
No I am a trumpeter that IS a doctor. Trumpeter, Doctor... Both are non-mutually exclusive professions, that is the exact same context that includes Eddie Henderson.

Jim Thorpe was one of the best athletes of all time. He won Olympic gold medals for pentathlon and decathlon. Those medals were later revoked when it was learned he had played (minor league) professional baseball under a false name in contravention of the Olympic amateurism rules. He was deemed to be a professional athlete, although his baseball gig was short-term and part-time and had no connection to his competition as a pentathlete and decathlete. (The gold medals were reinstated much later and posthumously.)

Another position. I am a union member for the American Federation of Musicians. I am a member of the American Medical Association, the American Academy of Pediatrics, and the American College of Physicians. So do either of these memberships acknowledge that I am a Professional Musician or a Professional Physician.
I'm also a member of the AMA, but the "M" in mine stands for Motorcyclist...lol

Brings to mind a certain scarecrow who wanted a brain and got what passes for the equivalent.
“They have one thing you haven't got: a diploma. Therefore, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Universitartus Committiartum E Pluribus Unum, I hereby confer upon you the honorary degree of ThD – Doctor of Thinkology.”

In Dr. Go's resurrection of this thread, I decided to go back and reread it and I discovered that I had played longer than I thought. That's not the important thing, but it reminded me of my first pay gig.
I was about 15 and it was at the Pearl Harbor Rec. Center. Played for a bunch of swabbies on the prowl. I wonder how many of you remember Combo Orcs books - intro, top, bottom, out. Great music.
Got to watch the swabbies and the jarheads (sorry flugelgirl) fighting over their football game on the way home. As the saying goes, watched the fights and a football game broke out.
