Happy 4th of July 2.0
-
Dale Proctor launched a welcoming post under Happy 4th of July in 2020 that met its end likely due to all of being in a funk as it was the first during Covid 4th, so not very much celebration with groups that year. I am not resurrecting it but rather once again presenting it with a more positive spin in that we are free again to celebrate. So with that perspective, I ask you all, What are you doing (related to the trumpet) for the 4th?
I was asked to sub for a good friend, excellent trumpet teacher/band director, and band mate for a big band we played in, that just found out he had an aortic aneurism and valvular heart condition needing urgent surgery. I was asked to replace him in his Rock Band: The Bucket List Players. Here is their web sit pic with may friend holding his trumpet on the far right.
We are playing for an event called: The Boro Boom, during which we play opening music for the fireworks display from 7 pm to 9:30 pm on the 4th. We start with the Star Spangled Banner, and interspersed are additional American Theme songs such as "Proud to Be an American", "Living in America" and of course our first song of the evening "Saturday in the Park".... I think it was the 4th of July!
All the best and happy playing for the 4th!

{'m not doing squat. But I'll share this blast from the past.
On July 4th during the 200th Anniversary of our country's founding, I was at Ft. McHenry in Baltimore harbor, home of the Star Bangled Banner. I watched a firework reenactment of the bombardment of the fort from a sailing ship that was in the harbour. On the ship, playing the National Anthem was the Tonight Show Orchestra and Doc Severinsen. It doesn't get much more overwhelming than that.

Nothing special trumpetwise here, either.
Most memorable Independence Day: My wife and I were driving back from some really nice fireworks when we got rearended by some drunk who fled the scene and totalled his borrowed Ford Expedition shortly thereafter. My wife sustained neck injuries which I suppose could have been worse had it not been for the headrest.
Damage to our car came to within about $2 of it being totalled, but a great repair shop restored the damage perfectly. Unfortunately, that car got totalled at a later date in a trumpet-related incident, a story for another time.
We were subpoenaed to appear at the miscreant's trial as witnesses for the prosecution. Not surprisingly, he did not show up, as he had fled back to Mexico, presumably to take advantage of the availability of tequila there and likely harm more people in the process.

I played with a brass quintet in a church service yesterday morning. We played along with the the hymns and then a couple patriotic numbers for the offertory and the postlude. That evening we played for a BBQ dinner and recognition of veterans. No other playing planned for the 4th.

Played in a mini-parade at Sun-Up Bay Resort on lake Coeur d'Alene in northern Idaho on the 3rd. It is an old tradition there, and they do it on the 3rd because Pyrotechnicians usually are all booked on the 4th.

So an audience member took a pic of our 4th of July Performance for the Springboro Fireworks festival. Cannot believe I made it in 87 degree direct sun for 2 hours. The third hour of performance was in the shade of the high school behind us all the time playing the lead trumpet part on Earth Wind and Fire, Tower of Power, Chicago, Sade, James Brown, Stevie Wonder... etc charts. Place was packed with thousands of people.

You should join a German band. You've got ideal legs for Lederhosen.

Just joined a Creol Band. Does that count? The Queen City Krewe Brass Band. Really cool AND demanding music!

@Dr-GO I cant imagine anything better than playing classic New Orleans music in a great band like the Queen City Krewe
That makes me smile inside, good luck sir.
