      No comment on that video.

Use this thread for covers that should never have been performed, or at least never caught on video.

My favorite (least favorite) is when Roseanne Barr gets up and "sings" the national anthem. She does such a poor job that the whole croud boos her and she basically gives them the finger. What an awful woman.

I'm pretty sure that could be called a punk performance. Intentionally bad, just to provoke people.
Wasn't that kind of her thing, too? I was too young to get any enjoyment from her TV show so I have no idea what it was about.
I wonder who the heck booked her for that gig, and what they thought she was gonna do...

How about some Mary Schneider? I guess all her recordings could be considered blasphemous towards the source material.

There's a lot of skill on display here but what amazes me is that no one seems to have stopped to ask "should we really do this?". None of this is easy to do and those are professional musicians, playing professionally arranged music, in professional TV makeup and wardrobe etc.

This one, I actually kind of enjoy because they obviously love the source material and are playing with it in a pretty virtuoso way. I think the use of contrabassoon here is quite inspired.

But I played it to some people who absolutely hated it! So I think it still fits the theme of the thread.

                      I've seen worse.

                      1. She is intentionally doing this yodeling style thing, she didn’t accidentally do it while trying to do something else.
                      2. Let's hear one of us try it…..just saying, it is definitely difficult.
                      3. This isn’t being done in the USA or North America.. Meaning, we have different tastes.

On the other hand, before you lash back at me….it is cringe-worthy too.

@bigdub Looks to me like we're on complete agreement. In poor taste but skillfully performed.

Now here's something else in that vein... I really can't fault the skill of anyone involved but is this any way to treat Mozart?

Here's something you might not have heard before... Tchaikovsky's piano concerto - inverted ?

I can heartily recommend all the content on that youtube channel. The older stuff is mostly this kind of "Hoffnungesque" jokery.

Let's get controversial. Here's my nomination...

I love so much of Sinatra's work and almost by definition he was a "cover artist". OTOH, Jim Croce wrote some great songs and was taken way before his time. Sinatra butchers this great tune. His performance is all style without substance or integrity.

I've been a hard core Sinatra fan for most of my 85 years on this planet and still am. And even though he had some bad years during the 70s and 80s, we'll never see another entertainer like him.
Word is that he was on antidepressants at around the time of that concert ( 1974, I believe ) and may account for the poor performance overall, and not just on the Jim Croce piece. Note the stumble at the finish of the song. It wasn't the first time he did that in those days. He was also starting to have trouble remembering the lyrics to many of the old standards he did in his earlier years. Kinda sad.

Frank Sinatra had some duds along the way, but overall, he was the best, along with Ella Fitzgerald, IMO. My favorite anecdote has to do with the first time he and Luciano Pavarotti met. When they approached each other, Pavarotti got on his knees, kissed Frank's hands, and said "You are the best singer that ever lived!"

@j-jericho , @GeorgeB as per my post, I'm a fan of Sinatra too. I can remember being told on multiple occasions to go listen to his work by MDs trying to get a school band to swing. Same thing 50 years later as my community band rehearses Sinatra! (Arrangement by Stephen Bulla) He remains da man.
@J-Jericho, wondering if Pavarotti's respect was based on music or The Mob 😝
