Hi barliman2001. The Gaudet family bought Courtois at the beginning of the XX century or so. Gaudet trumpets are commonly found in French auctions, and I think they were their answer to the a growing demand for cheaper horns (Couesnon territory, in my perception). I've seen Gaudet trumpets with Courtois marked valves - I don't know if this was the case for all of them. I think there are also some more recent models that don't look much like a Courtois, maybe stencils.

It probably has nothing to do with the kind of oil.
IMHO, it's the result of valve wear, surely more visible for new horns - the paper towel trick as mentioned by Dr GO is a must for the first few months (also inside the bottom caps). After that it depends on the horn, personal habits (e.g., valve block inclination), amount of playing, etc. but I would say there is no reason for alarm, but surely a reason for cleaning.

Reddit, Facebook groups, anywhere a question about trumpets/trumpet players leads to. I will also try to do a bit of promotion.

Shamelessly promote it on other sites to get backlinks and deliberately launch some posts echoing the most common questions regarding trumpets and trumpet playing on Google.
