    • RE: Harrelson Trumpets

Having played Dr GO's Harrelson... It is a great playing horn, can confirm.

I remember when he was first trying them out before he purchased, I came to a gig where he was trying one out. I had to put it down before I got tempted to spend all the money I have for one!

    • Trumpet mouthpiece with a reed!

A friend showed me this piece before our gig on Saturday, I promptly ordered one on Sunday.

As someone who regularly plays both sax and trumpet (I actually played bass & tenor sax at the gig before laying down some nice double Cs) this is exactly the kind of quackery I look forward to having some fun with!

    • RE: Doubling on a tenor sax

As long as you give a fair amount of time to practicing both, you embouchure should be just fine! I regularly gig on both sax and trumpet, sometimes even in the same gig and it does not bother my chops one bit.

Both are great horns. I have played on vintage Conn horns, but I prefer a more modern horn overall, mainly for the keywork. Both will get the job done so go for the tone and do what makes you happy. Currently my tenor is a Couf Superba I, made by the Keilwerth company in Germany in the 70s. Nice big powerful horn!

Just one, I have a 3TF I used on mellophone for a while, it was a great match for that horn!

    • RE: I'm desperate and at a lost with reactions to metal mouthpieces.

@tmd said in I'm desperate and at a lost with reactions to metal mouthpieces.:

Very sorry to hear this. You talk about bad practice habits, playing in pain, and having no allergies. Have you considered this is not a mouthpiece problem? Have you considered getting a basic Bach 3c, 5c, or 7c, or the Yamaha equivalent, and starting a healthy practice and playing routine?

      Mike

I agree, a sudden reaction where you weren't bothered by metal previously seems odd. Have you had the horn cleaned? May be time for a good chem clean at the tech. Also consider something environmental that the mouthpiece comes in contact with. How clean is the case?

    • New Orleans Brass Music/Second Line Charts?

      Hey!

I work with a group that plays a lot in this style in Columbus OH, we call ourselves the NACHO Band (Stands for Nationwide Children's Hospital Orchestra). We play a lot of gigs raising money and awareness for children and children's projects at the hospital, Ronald McDonald house and other similar charities etc.

Does anyone else play in this style and have some charts they could share? Especially stuff in the style of groups like Rebirth Brass Band, Broken Brass Ensemble, Hot 8 etc. I am familiar with the Preservation Hall Band Book and stuff on Musescore and have written several out myself that I am happy to share as well, but I am hoping the collective might have some others to share too!

      Thanks in advance!

    • Shallowest flugel mouthpieces?

What options are there for SHALLOW flugel pieces without going custom?

Before anyone goes crazy and gets their panties in a bunch, I'm not planning to use this on flugel. I do prefer deeper V shaped peices on flugel in general.

I do have a 1915 Martin slide trumpet that takes a flugel shank mouthpiece. I'd like to get a brighter more trumpet like tone.

      Thanks!
