    • RE: Best place(s) to sell Adams Flugelhorn

A person's attitude towards playing, or not, is personal so the decision is yours.

Just a reminder, though, that Chet Baker had a missing front tooth (when he had them) and came back, although his endurance suffered, after getting all of his teeth knocked out.

I believe that falsetto, from a singer's perspective, is around that register where, going progressively higher, the voice goes over a break and has to continue by singing "head tones". It is higher than the "normal" or "modal voice".

Lovely. I wonder if that's true castrato or phenominal falsetto.

    • RE: Trumpet playing Christmas marathon is over!

I miss al the musical involvement during Advent. Can't play at that level anymore.

My most memorable season was 1967. After an already busy Advent performance season, which culminated with playing in Bunka Kaikan, Tokyo's main performing hall, with the Tokyo Youth Philharmonic, some Colonel showed up backstage and told those of us who were in the military to go home, pack our bags, we were going to Viet Nam early the next morning.

Spent that Christmas playing everyplace Bob Hope wouldn't play. And it was the buildup to the big Tet Offensive the next week. Plenty of "the rockets' red glare" and fun time was had by all.

    • Moderating vs. Policing

I would suggest moderating from the standpoint of (within reason) letting things play themselves out rather than launching pre-emptive strikes and stifling further discussion. I would like to hear how other Forum members see this.

    • RE: A little humour

This is not funny, but I can relate as a musician. Employers have no idea of the travel time, set-up and tear-down time that's part of your appearance. And, of course, cannt imagine paying you for that.

      @georgeb said in Lip Buzzing-Bad:

I think I've read enough about buzzing for now. I think I'll go play some ballads. George

Take requests? Do you know that old country love ballad, "If I Had To Do It All Over Again, I'd Do It All Over You?

Talking about buzzing can be productive. After the introduction of this topic, the thread has become more about talking about talking about buzzing rather than talking about buzzing, itself. Seems much ado about nothing. But that's me. Carry on.

Fair enough. I will say, though, that whether performing on sax or trumpet, I was never conscious of my support being different.

So sad about your teeth Rowuk. I didn't know. Sorry.

I would guess that you already know this information and book but just in case:
      https://www.amazon.com/Buzzing-Book-Complete-Method/dp/B000UJY3U4

Regarding buzzing, I was a proponent of it although I was never good at it. Learning the "Leadpipe Playing" and concept of exciting air in the tube and that the flapping lips are a consequence of that, have been liberating for me. Perhaps in the future I can take my lessons learned from that and combine it with conventional buzzing to have the best of both worlds but not for now,

Buzzing has always been a physical isometric activity for me. Top and bottom lips squeezing against each other. Leadpipe playing and concept have helped me play much more relaxed.

You say Potaytoes and I say Potahtoes. Trumpet pedagogy.
