Great, Wayne. I can almost hear the waves crashing against the rocks. Man, you are getting better and better with each new painting.

RE: Mission Impossible (Literally)
Ahhh, the great Mr. Morrison. He must have elephant size lungs.
I found his you tube tutorials ( especially on breathing ) quite helpful back in 2016 when I started my comeback after a 50 year hiatus.

Thank you, George, that is very kind of you to say.
Ideally, that’s what I try for- every new painting I do would preferably be better than all the others. Of course that is a bit hard to achieve, but what I strive for!It is definitely working, Wayne.

RE: More Clark Terry
Clark Terry is one of my trumpet heroes, and is probably one of the best Flugel players in the world. And nobody make it look easier.
He has an hour long video Course on Trumpet Playing on youtube which was great for comeback players like me. His section on buzzing with or without a mouthpiece, especially without is absolutely amazing.
I am using an ACB TA1 mouthpiece, developed by Trent Austin, a friend of Clark's, and it is mostly based on the mp Clark used through out most of his career, and it is a great worker for me. -

I'd love to take this beauty out for a cruise. Great work, Wayne.

RE: A Nice Biography
Thanks for that. Anytime I heard Rubin on the radio I always knew who it was. Someone in the article called his trumpet tone buttery and, yes, very buttery. I was a big Blues Brothers fan and a lot of the reason was Alan Rubin. He had so much talent, he could have been anything he wanted in life, and I am really grateful he chose entertainment and the trumpet.
When I read of his death a few years ago, it was hard to believe. He was one of those talents you felt would never die. And he really hasn't. Who he was and what he accomplished will go on forever.

Here a 16 year old Alan Rubin plays at the 1959Newport Jazz Festival. What a talent even back then.

RE: Some good...."non-trumpeting" music :)
That was great fun. I grew up watching those old musicals and thought I was in love with Vera Ellen and her gorgeous legs. Gene Kelly was definitely America's best athletic dancer and proves by some of the scenes in this video. Lot of hard work must have went into editing all those scenes to match the rhythm of Jackson's song. Just proves that music taste can change but rhythm never changes.

RE: How do I begin to learn "jazz trumpet?"
Everything that Kehaulani wrote, plus spend a lot of time learning to play the old standards, because in my opinion they were and still are a solid foundation for what jazz is all about. I play a dozen or so standards every afternoon as part of my daily practice sessions and I play every chance I get with other jazz lovers.

Watching you do that painting brought back memories of when I used to play around with watercolors. If there are any other artist members here they will learn a lot watching that video.
By the way, GREAT PAINTING !

RE: Check her out.
Fantastic. Imagine what she will be doing with the trumpet 20 years from now.
I'd give my eye teeth to be able to play like that again. My old brain is letting me down bit by bit when it comes to fast tempo playing these days.

RE: Artist on BOARD
Wayne, were you attempting something different in this picture ? It just seems a slight change in style. Or maybe it's just my old eyes. Regardless, it is a beautiful canvas.

RE: What’s your “sound” and how do you get it?
@kehaulani said in What’s your “sound” and how do you get it?:
So my sound is just as good as I can make it on any given day.
And there is nothing wrong with that...

Oh, man, looking at that painting ( picture ) I felt myself transposed, breathing the fresh autumn air as I walked along that peaceful country road, leaving the cares of the world far behind me.
You are an amazing artist, Wayne.

RE: What's the recording in this scene?
Yes, Doc has stood beside many of the great ones of today. That says a lot for him and his playing abilities. I always enjoy any videos he posts of himself playing under interesting conditions. I like his sound and his style. But don't tell him I said so .

RE: Artist on BOARD
So sorry, Doc. I know the pain of losing pets and my heart goes out to you.

RE: How many is too many?
@j-jericho said in How many is too many?:
If you don't enjoy every one of the ones you have, you have too many.
I concur with this statement. I own 6 trumpets, a cornet and a flugel. The trumpets get played regularly on a rotational schedule and the flugel and cornet get use for certain pieces of music that seem, to me, to benefit from their particular sound.

As for the picture, I must say, Dale, you look like a very distinguished gentleman indeed.
