So, sexual harassment isn’t always about sex. It can also be about power. When someone takes up your personal space, tells jokes or stories only intended to make you uncomfortable, throws a tantrum in a room full of people and yet throws their wrath at you specifically- these things can be sexual harassment too. Maybe they don’t want to date you, but they just don’t like that you are there, and maybe occupy a position either that they want, or think someone else should have. During my time in the military, I saw lots of this stuff, and stood up for myself and others more times than I can count.
I don’t know what the circumstances were in this case, but given that military members are allowed to date(as long as regulations are not broken), orchestras must have similar policies. I have no doubt, though, that if charges were brought up something unwelcome happened, and hope that what came from the arbitration was good for both parties.
And as for the woman who was forced to write a letter about something that didn’t happen or lose her job, she should have charged her boss for that.

RE: CLEAN YOUR HORN!
@Kehaulani that’s just not healthy. One other great benefit of regular cleaning is that it doesn’t entirely change the way your horn plays. There is very little difference in the way my old A1 plays to your new one because I’ve been so good about regular maintenance!

CLEAN YOUR HORN!
So, as I work from my home shop cleaning up some nasty, dirty horns from our most recent estate buy, this seems like a great time to send out this message. Just a little PSA from your friendly neighborhood brass tech, your horns are probably overdue for a cleaning, and this down time is a perfect time to take care of that! Even if you don’t have to worry about virus exposure right now, your horn and mouthpiece are probably carrying more gunk and germs than you realize. If you happen to be one of those people who buys a horn off Shopgoodwill or Ebay or such and plays them before you clean them, you may want to quit that practice. Trumpets are so easy to clean at home, and not only will you end up with a better playing instrument that will give you more years of service, but also keep yourself safe from any germs they may be harboring. I’m really glad I’ve stuck to my policy of not playing anything that comes into the shop until it’s clean - in these times I hope you’ll adopt that policy, too. I also hope that if your finances are intact when this is over that you’ll visit your local shop for a chem clean if you’re due for one. Lots of techs are struggling financially right now and will need your support to keep their businesses open! If you like using your local techs, help them be there to help you.
Back to work - stay safe and healthy! -

RE: Unbelievable. Too young and for no reason.
A great loss to the Jazz community. Youth may not be invincible, but he was hardly young at 59. Still too young to leave us, though. I got to play one of his horns once, closest I ever got to seeing him, but I think he has a newish album out?was planning on looking it up.

RE: Current Italian trumpet sensation
We are the sum of everything we listen to and practice, plus our unique physiology. It’s almost impossible to sound exactly like someone else, but why would we want to?
They sound great, though - I enjoyed this clip! -
RE: I won't be bored by band suspension
@fels they are just using reharmonizations. Some of the changes in the older editions of the real books are actually ukulele chords, so they have been modernized over time. If you don’t like them you can go into the file and change it.
Also, what you are downloading has been created by a bunch of different users, so it’s not one version copied from real books. It also depends which real book or chart they are going by, I suppose. I have created a bunch for my own use from charts I have that are not in any of the downloadable files - super easy to do, and easy to modify. -
RE: I won't be bored by band suspension
I used to use Band in a Box, but have been enjoying iReal Pro app the last few years. Much more user friendly, easy to set up on phone or tablet, and easy to download tons of charts or make your own. Easily transposes to other key signatures, and easy to set up time or even which instruments you want in the mix. I’ve used it on iPad with a Bluetooth speaker for a room full of kids with no problems, and on my own regularly.

RE: Covid-19 Closing Down Music Venues
I’ve considered some small jams with a few friends while no gigs are happening, but plan on taking advantage of the practice time while I’m home earlier most nights. So much to do, and usually not enough time to get to it all, so might as well come back from this break better than I was!

My band leader was on that flight! She’s the one you refer to.

Like I said, the music world is small! Word gets around fast!

My husband and I love watching reruns for the wardrobe alone -too much fun there!

Don’t be THAT GUY!
Here’s a screenshot conversation a friend sent me this morning - the one on the plane is a bandleader, friend they were texting is Executive Director of a group I play with. This could also be titled “How to not get a gig”! The musical world is small, and news travels fast....names have been blacked out to spare the innocent, as well as swears to spare your delicate eyes...

RE: Memory Lane
@Kehaulani that was Hee Haw, wasn’t it? Watched them both as a kid with my Nana and G.Gradma

RE: What is this?
Depending on size, I’ve seen Eb alto flugel that look similar. Without seeing it in person, not sure !

Yeah those are called Conn Visible Embouchure mouthpieces, I think they were standard in the kit because I had another 2b with one. They have a red Bakelite cup that could unscrew from the backbore, presumably you could have different cup sizes.
These Mpcs sometimes sell for more than the 22Bs do! They generally sell from $80-110, and I paid $10 for my 22B -

1962 Martin Committee flugel
Is this a rare find? It appears to have a rather small bell for a flugelhorn. How does it sound? How accurate does it slot?
It is rather rare, though you can find them. It has a smaller bell than most flugel size, and won’t fit on a K&M peg. It also takes a cornet shank mouthpiece, and I found a very deep one to get the right sound. Intonation is not bad as long as you don’t overblow, like every other flugel. I really wanted one because it was odd, but turns out it plays better than expected! It would never be a replacement for my F2, but I could use it as a backup if needed.
