@Richard-III I couldn’t tell you as I don’t eBay much myself - maybe one of the frequent shoppers on here can help.

RE: Rock, Pop, Classic 70's "Horn Bands" from back in the day?
Love this stuff! I studied with Chuck Winfield from BS&T for a while in college- fabulous player and wonderful person. It was a little daunting walking into his studio the first time with all the gold records and Downbeat awards on the wall, but he was super nice. He was a little too nice to study with at that level because everything you did was wonderful, very little criticism. I ultimately moved to another instructor who kicked my butt remorselessly, and it was worth it! Chuck was great to work with, though, and could play anything!

RE: Not exactly a trumpet but.....
Keyed bugle. We have one at work but it’s in no shape to be played right now. That one’s only half my job - I’ll remove the dents, and the woodwind tech will repad the keys.

RE: countries / states represented here?
I grew up in Maine, moved to Boston to attend Berklee but was unhappy with the quality of the education and moved back to Maine to attend University of Maine at Augusta until I figured out what was next. Much better education, with unlimited access to teachers that really pushed me, unlike the half hour a week I got with my private instructor at Berklee, but I missed Boston. Joined the Navy when I ran out of money for school and was stationed in New Orleans, Silverdale WA, Norfolk VA and San Diego, finished out back in Norfolk. Had a lot of travel throughout the US and South America, as well as a bunch of cross-country moves. My husband (from Miami) and I enjoyed our time in the Seattle area the most, so that is where we chose to retire. Been back in the area almost 3 yrs and still loving it!

RE: Yamaha "Shew" - Schilke B-7 connection?
I owned a first generation Shew for 6 months, and wasn’t happy with it. I’d heard it was based on the B-6 so decided to try it. I’d already tried a B5, which I liked better than the Shew but still wasn’t what I was looking for. Got the B6 and played it for 7 years and loved it until my needs changed again. I do like the newest version with the heavier valve block better than the other versions, but still not the horn for me.

RE: Harmon Mute Showdown!
I loved my bubble until I got my Trumcor zinger - thatbthing has been perfect in every setting for me

RE: "Star Trek Next Generation"
He could have been educated at Oxford. I’ve known some folks whose first language was not English that picked up the accent of the place they studied English in - for example a Polish girl with a Canadian accent.

RE: Favorite Cornet
The story I heard about Reynolds is that he was an employee at King and made horns after hours at the factory with his name on them. He got fired and had to produce them elsewhere. Maybe true, maybe not, but it explains the similarities for sure!

RE: Yamaha "Shew" - Schilke B-7 connection?
I had always heard it was the B6 it was based on.

RE: Favorite Cornet
@Richard-III Not yet, but I do have one waiting for me at work. It will be waiting a while longer as there are a lot more high priority horns ahead of it, but I’ll let you know when I get to it. It has a sterling bell and looks identical to a Silver Tone Master model.

RE: Can Playing with Musicians Out of Tune Give You a Headache?
Interesting question. I know that if I have to listen to or play with others that are extremely out of tune it gives me a headache, but it’s a tension headache from grinding my teeth. One of the many reasons I repair instead of teach!

RE: Does a large bore horn take more air?
@Kehaulani You will definitely find one of them easier to play at the end of the night, but it’s hard to say which one. I’ve played some large bore horns where my phrases are shorter and I gasp rather than breathe at the end of them. I’ve played others that feel like the slots are much further apart, and still others that feel no different from a medium large at all. I usually feel that range is more difficult above a certain point on a medium bore. I’ve found that horns that afford me with better intonation are best for my endurance more than any other factor. Your results may differ, but you really have to try for yourself in the end.

RE: Could you have a metal allergy?
BTW if I wear earrings with nickel, instant pain, swelling, and puss-filled infections. Gross!
-
RE: Could you have a metal allergy?
I have a nickel allergy and maybe more than that - I don’t have any trouble with silver or gold, but have reactions to raw brass. When playing raw brass horns, my hands will smell and develop an itchy rash. It usually takes prolonged contact, but helps if I use a valve guard with extra coverage for practice or gloves for prolonged dent work. I have noticed that I have less of a reaction if I keep patina from developing, which seems strange, but it works so I polish. With jewelry I stick to gold, silver, stainless or titanium. I can wear stainless in my bottom earrings but have fewer reactions if I use titanium in my cartilage piercings.
I’ve know people with mouthpiece allergies, some of which have given up playing because of severe pain. Trent Austin developed his acrylic tops to help with his allergies - maybe he will chime in. -
RE: Flugel case
You could try a Torpedo Coyote with the snarl lid - works for my Adams F2 which is quite large. If you contact them they can tell you if it will fit.
