I have no idea. But even on TM, there were people who just picked other people's brains and then disappeared.

@barliman2001 I was relieved.
I'm looking forward to getting it from now on. By the way, can you help me with a mouthpiece consultation? What I use for Bb and C trumpets is Warburton top: 3D back bore: 5B. For British Cornet, I use the top: 2MBC back bore: BC8☆. If possible, I would like to choose from Warburton's for Piccolo.
I am not too familiar with Warburton's mouthpiece sizes. Usually, I recommend staying with the same rim size as the "normal" mouthpiece, but use a much shallower cup. A few people will now be saying, "not* again*!" when I recommend the Stomvi Mouthpiece system; but they really have perfected the art of the variable mouthpiece: one rim, two or three stems and up to seven different cups. And you can always add to the basic system with specialist rims and stems (and, of course, cups). They even have a special lightweight picc stem.

RE: Seeking input on Rules
As this topic is slowly getting off the rails, and there have not been any inputs regarding rules for some time, I am locking this topic.

@barliman2001 My college friend recently got a schilke P7-4GP. So he decided to sell me the P5-4SP he had been using until now. He took good care of it so it's in good condition(he said). It is a vintage of the late 70s and the serial number is No.8527.
Can't find fault with that choice.

@Bertie I'm really happy to get advice from a number of great players, including you.
I think that the important things I learned from the information from everyone are "do not start the exercise with the piccolo trumpet" and "do not practice for a long time with the piccolo trumpet". At the end of this month I will get a piccolo trumpet. I would like to start practicing based on your wonderful advice. Thank you.
Which picc are you going to get? Did you have help in choosing it?

RE: Re: Caruso on Piccolo trumpet
Although I do use the picc. on occasion, I am by no means a specialist. You had better approach Rowuk directly - he's the God of Advice here.

With the above said, I might add, Barliman has been doing a fine job of policing as well.
Barliman and Kujo are very capable as is our administrator. I think we have a good team and am happy with this. Perhaps having Leadership meetings on a regular basis may help distribute the load and minimize the burden, which again argues to adding another mediator. Team work always wins.
Leadership meetings are a bit difficult if you are on different continents...

RE: Caruso on Piccolo trumpet
You always need to remember that the picc is a different beast from the Bb trumpet. With that in mind, you can play any exercise. Just don't play it on picc as if it were a normal Bb, and vice versa.

RE: Seeking input on Rules
Three important points:
-
I would be extremely honoured if Rowuk were to consent to share the Holy Office of Moderatorship.
-
I acknowledge that administrators are human beings with all human failings. But perhaps the administrator could be persuaded to open a second account as "admin - private" to voice those topics he/she/it can't address in an official capacity. Then we could soundly abuse him without abusing the office...
-
The main reason for the disappearance of TM was that no one knew who the admin was, where the community was based and how to access the server and such small technical details. I am not aware that the situation as to TB is in any way different. If we don't want to have the same thing happen to TB, we need to make sure someone else apart from the admin knows how to manage things in case the admin has toothache or the runs or is incapacitated by the three main reasons why trumpet players disappear: Drink, Dungeon or Death.

@Mike-Ansberry Is that by chance a painter with the initials G F?

@BigDub Wearing a uniform for a flight upgrade is easy. But flying internationally with just a target shooting club membership card as ID - that's tough.
Did it. In the old days, on a flight from Dublin to London Heathrow. As neither the UK nor Ireland had any compulsory form of ID, they accepted anything with your pic in it. They did not notice that that club membership card was nine years out of date!
(And no, it was AFTER 9/11). -
RE: That's all?
Actually, it is customary not to mention the orchestral excerpts because the will be announced at short notice without any preparation time whatsoever. They are still an integral part of the audition process. In addition, the audition process at German orchestras usually is a multi-stage one, with only the requirements for the first stage being publicised. As the audition for a solo viola player showed... the orchestra were quite pleased at what the candidate presented, but, having been burnt before, they asked the candidate to play the fast demisemiquaver passage from "the Bartered Bride". And the viola candidate readily agreed, saying, "well, yes, if you've got enough time for that..."

Now that we've relearned how to wash our hands, we can tackle how to use indicators in traffic.

"Doctor, I always imagine that I'm a dog." - "Okay, we can tackle that. Will you please lie down on the sofa?" - "I'm not allowed on the sofa..."
