Updates Coming soon...
I have put this off for far too long, and now the software which runs this site has gotten very out-of-date and possibly has security issues. I'm going to have to update the software soon. Don't worry, I will back up all data before doing so. However, the site might be down for even a couple of days while I work this out. I'll let you know for sure before I go ahead and attempt this, but I just wanted to warn users beforehand.
If you need to contact me, please email me at: info@trumpetboards.com. Thank you.

RE: Bots are getting scary

This post is not intended to be political in any way, but if we recognize that internet AI bots use all available material found on the internet, how qualified could any response be to a question concerning President Biden, Donald Trump or both in the same Query? What about a response to asking a question if we should buy a Monette, GR, Warburton or Schilke mouthpiece? With all of the good and bad, quite a bit of intelligence is required to understand what it true or probably true and sometimes the best answer is I don't know. Bots are not programmed for "I don't know"!
In many queries I get very "delusional" answers from ChatGPT. Where it really shines is helping to formulate text. I think that we have a HUGE challenge before us!
There are some stories now about people getting busted by relying on ChatGPT. One lawyer used it to draft a lawsuit, not knowing that the "cases" it offered as precedent were ALL fabricated. Every one of them. This lawyer didn't do his due diligence and now he's being censured. So yes, One must be careful on how much they trust ChatGPT. I like using it for content that doesn't need to be 100% accurate, but you need to produce a lot of it.

RE: Moderator absent...
Wow. That sounds like a blast. I wish I had my EU passport already so I could join you. Hopefully the forum won't catch on fire while you're away.

RE: Back to flugelhorn - and looking for help with playing after lip injury
The encouraging thing is that many people have made a comeback, so it certainly is doable.

Mine only has "ML" stamped on the #2 valve casing.

From what I understand, Vindabona (dual-bore) actually only applied to the tuning slide. The rest of the trumpet is the same bore, I think. I should do some research on it. I know, I will ask ChatGPT:
The "Vindabona" bore is a design feature found on some Bach trumpets that refers to a specific type of tubing that is used in the instrument. The name "Vindabona" is a reference to the ancient Roman city of Vienna, which was known as Vindobona in Latin. The Bach Vindabona bore features a slightly larger and more gradually tapered leadpipe, which is intended to provide a more open and free-blowing feel to the instrument. This design can result in a more resonant and responsive sound, particularly in the upper register.
It's worth noting that not all Bach trumpets feature the Vindabona bore. Some models, particularly older ones, may use different bore designs or may not have a specific name or label for the bore. Additionally, while the Vindabona bore can have an impact on the overall sound and feel of the instrument, there are many other factors that can also affect the trumpet's tone and playability, such as the mouthpiece, valve design, and construction materials.
I cannot guarantee if that is true, but that's what ChatGPT told me.

Yes, if you remind me again I'll try to do it this evening or tomorrow.

Hi Annie, I would recommend you look up online “Phil Smith trumpet recovery.” He’s a very renowned musician who had to retire from the New York Philharmonic after he suffered from serious focal dystonia.
I believe he has a video or two out there explaining how he has come back to playing. Generally, the concept is very basic. Play soft, easy long tones and go from there.

RE: Bach Club
I used to own a Bach 72 MLV and sold it. I regretted selling that trumpet, so I recently had the opportunity to pickup another and I did. I remember why I liked the first trumpet so much. There is definitely a quality of sound that is unique to the 72 MLV. I believe Wynton used to play one a long time ago. Who knows, maybe mine was his horn?

RE: Speaking of AI....
You can tell that something is off, even on the images that look like real people. It's quite disturbing but also an interesting exercise to see how it "reasons" about the given prompt.

Speaking of AI....
I generated som "AI Imagery." Can you guess the prompt behind each image?

A recent headline:
“AI bot tweets out plan to ‘eliminate’ humanity in order to save Earth”
Link:
https://bgr.com/science/ai-bot-tweets-plan-to-eliminate-humanity-in-order-to-save-earth/It is true that AI currently can not program it self. Programming is directed by humans, but that also is a problem.
This stuff really humors me. Despite all the popular culture (i.e. Terminator, iRobot, etc), there really is no way that computers can "take over the world." Not beyond what we allow them, at least.

RE: Bots are getting scary
There are a lot pitfalls with AI, but mostly, there are just a lot of unknowns. It's new territory. "Artificial Intelligence" is not actually intelligence. It's just programming. The thing I have learned about computers, being a programmer myself, is that they do EXACTLY what you tell them to do. The problem is knowing what you are actually telling them to do, that's where bugs come from. It is extremely hard to account for every possible variable that could arise, and program behavior becomes wildly unpredictable when unaccounted-for variables are thrown into the mix. This is partly why I'm not looking forward to "self-driving" cars.
