What am I looking at?!
@barliman2001 is winter a good time to visit? Would love to come see an opera in Vienna!!
As far as income goes, I'll be working out of the USA no matter where I am in the world. So, in Europe that means probably working something like 3-11pm or similar. That works well for me given that I'm a natural night owl anyway.
Hello TBers,
I'm in the process of obtaining citizenship in the Czech Republic. I qualify for citizenship by descent and would love to explore the land, language and culture of my ancestry. I'm considering moving to Prague at some point in the future.
Any European members here who can tell me a little bit about Prague, and Central Europe in general?
The part with those quarter-note triplets was pretty amazing. Really, a great solo.

@mike-ansberry-0 Pitchfinder
I had a trumpet teacher with a pitch finder on his Bach C. This device could adjust both the 3rd valve slide and the main tuning slide and it could pull in as well as push out. It was a complicated mechanism.
I have put this off for far too long, and now the software which runs this site has gotten very out-of-date and possibly has security issues. I'm going to have to update the software soon. Don't worry, I will back up all data before doing so. However, the site might be down for even a couple of days while I work this out. I'll let you know for sure before I go ahead and attempt this, but I just wanted to warn users beforehand.
If you need to contact me, please email me at: info@trumpetboards.com. Thank you.
@rowuk said in Bots are getting scary:
This post is not intended to be political in any way, but if we recognize that internet AI bots use all available material found on the internet, how qualified could any response be to a question concerning President Biden, Donald Trump or both in the same Query? What about a response to asking a question if we should buy a Monette, GR, Warburton or Schilke mouthpiece? With all of the good and bad, quite a bit of intelligence is required to understand what it true or probably true and sometimes the best answer is I don't know. Bots are not programmed for "I don't know"!
In many queries I get very "delusional" answers from ChatGPT. Where it really shines is helping to formulate text. I think that we have a HUGE challenge before us!
There are some stories now about people getting busted by relying on ChatGPT. One lawyer used it to draft a lawsuit, not knowing that the "cases" it offered as precedent were ALL fabricated. Every one of them. This lawyer didn't do his due diligence and now he's being censured. So yes, One must be careful on how much they trust ChatGPT. I like using it for content that doesn't need to be 100% accurate, but you need to produce a lot of it.
Wow. That sounds like a blast. I wish I had my EU passport already so I could join you. Hopefully the forum won't catch on fire while you're away.
The encouraging thing is that many people have made a comeback, so it certainly is doable.

Mine only has "ML" stamped on the #2 valve casing.

From what I understand, Vindabona (dual-bore) actually only applied to the tuning slide. The rest of the trumpet is the same bore, I think. I should do some research on it. I know, I will ask ChatGPT:
The "Vindabona" bore is a design feature found on some Bach trumpets that refers to a specific type of tubing that is used in the instrument. The name "Vindabona" is a reference to the ancient Roman city of Vienna, which was known as Vindobona in Latin. The Bach Vindabona bore features a slightly larger and more gradually tapered leadpipe, which is intended to provide a more open and free-blowing feel to the instrument. This design can result in a more resonant and responsive sound, particularly in the upper register.
It's worth noting that not all Bach trumpets feature the Vindabona bore. Some models, particularly older ones, may use different bore designs or may not have a specific name or label for the bore. Additionally, while the Vindabona bore can have an impact on the overall sound and feel of the instrument, there are many other factors that can also affect the trumpet's tone and playability, such as the mouthpiece, valve design, and construction materials.
I cannot guarantee if that is true, but that's what ChatGPT told me.

Yes, if you remind me again I'll try to do it this evening or tomorrow.
