RE: Recommendations for used silverplated professional trumpet

We got a bunch of B&S and Schertzer last year and they’ve all been wonderful! We still have a limited amount of B&S left - Challenger II Bb and C, and Exquisite Eb. They’ve all been perfect right out of the box.
I've owned 2 Scherzer 8111 Bb/A Piccolo trumpets and they are my absolute favorite trumpet. I'd like to purchase another one eventually.

@flugelgirl I've had a B&S for several years now, and love it. Challenger II silver model.
I have heard good things about these trumpets and liked the ones I've had the opportunity to play.

RE: Nirschl B300
@ras100 said in Nirschl B300:
I was told by the seller that he was the second owner and bought the trumpet in 2010 for $700. I was told by another person that the trumpet listed for $1800 but sold for about $1200. Funny that the bell has Geretsried/Elkhart engraved under the name W. Nirschl. For what it's worth I've owned several nice horns including a 1962 Conn Constellation and a nice Bach student horn. This horns plays and sounds good. Thanks for all the replies.
The main thing is that it plays well. Everything else only matters when it comes to resale value.

RE: Nirschl B300
"Designed in Germany" or "German Design" is about the same as saying, "my ancestors are from Germany, but I was born in the USA, my parents were born in the USA, my grandparents were born in the USA." It doesn't mean much.

I found a used Conn 2B in the local classifieds. It's a nice, vintage horn, and I got it for $600 I think.
-
RE: No Name Trumpet
I would purchase the horn for 1/4 it's price. $1300 is very steep for a no-name make & model.

Too expensive in this kind of shape.
You think so? Perhaps. I didn't pick it up but I own one and would love to restore mine.

RE: Third valve
I don't think Chris Botti needs the slide. He doesn't actually play with anybody else, does he?

RE: Third valve
@Curlydoc said in Third valve:
Why do low D and DB seem to require extension of the third valve slide to be in tune while other notes requiring the third valve do not? Could a trumpet be made so that the third valve slide is unnecessary?
It has to do with the combined length of the 1st & 3rd valves. Trumpet design is always a compromise. If it were not, our trumpets would have 12 valves instead of 3. The slide allows for adjustments to tuning on certain pitches.

That's strange. Try reposting the images, maybe 3 at a time. You can add replies with more photos.

@BigDub - incorrect. The breeds were named after the province, not vice versa.
Shoot. I was thinking Labrador and Chihuahua were just the favorite dogs of that area!
Seems like New Jersey might be "Pit Bull".

RE: Hello! Welcome to TB, who are you?
I still think we need a state named after a dog, like Mexico's Chihuahua.
Imagine, the state of Mastiff...

@Rapier232 Great story, Rapier232. But when you do eventually get to come visit the USA, just remember that Texas isn't well, you know, quite representative of the whole country. Let's just say it that way. And, oh yeah, visit in the wintertime. Coming from London, you won't be acclimated to Texas summers. And, oh yeah #2, buy travel insurance and medical evacuation insurance. You don't want to get sick in Texas and try to get treated with NHS coverage.
I don't know, Texas is pretty darn big. I suspect they have just about every geographical feature that any other state has, except maybe 14k' peaks.

I use Everclear. 95% Alcohol. I drink a big swig then play my horn. Kills everything in it.
Including brain cells.

I have never poured isopropyl alcohol down my instruments. I bet they'd stink for weeks!
