    • RE: 1963 Martin Committee Medium Bore #2 Bb Trumpet

      I have no skin in the game, not getting compensated in any way (other than traffic).

      I have to tell you -- this is the most beautifully restored Martin Committee I have ever seen. It's perfect. If this were a large-bore it might sell for $5k+. And the original case is even flawless! At this price, I'd say it's almost a steal. If only I could justify it (I just bought a new road bike!)....

    • RE: First gig today

      I'm grateful just to get out of the house, sometimes. Yesterday, I was bogged down with stress and some buddies invited me to go fishing. Didn't catch anything, but it was such a relief to just leave the house for one hour.

      Let's see if this works. You should see a photo of Satchmo.

      @oldschooleuph
      I agree. Beautiful horn. Sell it for what it's worth. If you do donate -- please give to a VERY deserving student who will take very good care of said horn and appreciate the generosity.

      Yes, it has been 100+ around here and my motivation seems to be inversely proportional to the temperature as of late.

      I love how they will call it "The Queen's English," as if it belonged to her since birth. Sometimes I love the classiness of British culture. Out here, though, it's a little more Wild Wild West. This is 'Murica after all. We like whiskey, guns and cattle.

      Yes, that makes sense. Maybe upload a screenshot of exactly what bothers you? I imagine it would not be too hard to change. Does everyone else concur with your thoughts?

      Same tune...very different setting. Very beautiful! Definitely my favorite anthem. It's a very moving piece of music, regardless of the lyrics.

      @dr-go said in What are you listening to?:

      A medical student I was teaching just found were he matched for residency training. He was so excited but saddened that he would be leaving the Dayton area he wanted to share a memory with me from a few years back

      After he finished a course I was teaching on lipid metabolism during his first year of medical school, at the end of a semester. he wanted to get back to focusing less on medicine and more on music. So he invited me over to his home and we recorded an iTunes song performed by his sister, with him putting down drum, guitar and keyboard tracks, and me on Flugelhorn.

      After that session, he wanted to do a version of "Fly Me to the Moon", no music in front of us and here is what we did, unrehearsed and in one take:
      Youtube Video

      I really enjoy your playing, Dr. What is that Flugelhorn you are on? I know your trumpet is a Harrelson, I do remember that.
