I had the honor of playing for Jamey Aebersold who has a jazz series that goes by his name at the Cincinnati Main Public Library. He had our quintet open the newly remodeled Main Branch building. It was truly an honor.

The great thing about Jamey Aebersold is that he is very approachable. He has done clinics for 10's of 1,000's of people and also created (inherited/acquired see kehaulani) The Summer Jazz Workshops where he brings along some of the top names in jazz to help instruct and inspire. I spoke to Jamey many moons ago about the use of the various pentatonic scales and its applications in jazz because they are easy to learn ( a big plus for someone that knows very little) and can make a beginner sound like they know something. The idea came from a text I wrote some time ago which at the time didn't contain the pentatonic scales. The text now contains both major and minor pentatonic scales in all twelve keys as a supplement to the rest of the text.

FWIW, I don't think Jamie founded the Aebersold Jazz clinics, rather he took over and renamed the forerunner Stan Kenton Band Clinics which, in turn, had been the National Stage Band Camp.
