Olds Studio Bell Engraving
-
Two-tone Olds Studio trumpet bells came with two types of engraving, either perpendicular to the bell in a form similar to a family crest, or parallel to the bell in a form similar to a banner or billboard. Does anyone have insight into why this is? I can speculate on a number of explanations, but they are just guesses. I'm looking for something verifiable.
Also, does this variation apply to Studio cornets and trombones as well?

Update: This variation does apply to Studio trumpets, cornets, and trombones. Also, there is a third variation resembling an illuminated movie theater sign.
