    • RE: Taps on a real bugle (as per my post on Facebook)

      @trickg,
      I accepted a Mission from BAA a few years ago, it was a Gravesite event.
      I arrived an hour early and passed the time with the Military guys.
      They were relieved that they did not have to use their supplied digital thing.
      When the funeral arrived the director saw I was there and came running
      to tell me that the nephew was going to sound Taps for his uncle.
      Well, I waited under the tree to watch and listen, the nephew was a little guy about maybe 10 yrs. and did a fairly good job of it with just a few glitches
      nobody heard but himself, I couldn't see but I bet there wasn't a dry eye
      there.
      His Uncle would have been proud.

    • RE: Favorite Cornet

      Finally getting around to posting a photo of my
      William Frank Cornet. It has no model number or name.
      I believe it is either a special order or what was called
      the " Classic ".
      I bought it on Craigslist for $80.00 with a very nice case
      4 or 5 years ago.
      I had never heard of William Frank before, after doing a little
      research I found out a lot about him.
      He was a French Horn with the CSO and a maker of instruments.
      He also was a Friend of Renold Schilke and eventually sold what was left
      of his business to Schilke when Schilke started making trumpets.
      This cornet has what looks like a Schilke mouthpiece receiver but
      no one at Schilke could confirm it.
      It's a great player and I use it whenever I sound Taps.

      @Tobylou8 ,
      Nothing sounds as bad as the digital thing.
      Even if the real Bugler makes a little blunder it beats the digital.
      Usually the only person aware of the blunder is the Bugler.
      I can't count the people that have thanked me.

      Getting used to the format, now that I have traveled around the site i am
      liking it a lot better than I first thought I would.
      Haven't spent time to learn how to upload any photos yet
      but I'll figure it out.
      That old site if I could remember It's name is now history.

      I have an old William Frank cornet that has no model marking.
      The only other Frank cornets I have seen all have a model name.
      I knew that Frank & Schilke had a professional working relationship so I
      took the cornet to Schilke and they thought It had a Schilke mouthpiece
      receiver but couldn't verify. Everything looks original. I know they
      made what they called a " Classic " which I believe was not marked.
      This cornet plays great and has the look of a special cornet, bracing,
      engraving,

    • RE: No real gains on anything more than 40-45 minutes of practice.

      @Dr-GO ,
      At our 2 hour Band Rehearsals I have no problem, either do I have a
      problem at our concerts witch last a little short of rehearsal time
      I figure the constant interuptions from the band director give a little
      time to rest before starting up again.
      However down the basement at practice time I'm fatigued after 30 min.
      of constant practice.
      Allways been that way for me.

      This is my Conn 36A " CONCERT GRAND "
      I just figured out how to post a photo.
      Some say this is one of the best cornets Conn ever made.
      I don't know about that but it has a great cornet sound
      and I have enjoyed having it.
      More information can be found on the " CONN LOYALIST " website.DSC_0032.jpg

      @Tobylou8
      A friend has a King Master that is missing a valve guide.
      It's a 3 slot guide and he hasen't been able to find one.
      He's not a player and has 0 interest in the horn which belonged
      to his father that he played back in the late 40"s after
      he got out ofthe Army in a local band.
      I would love to play both horns and compare the difference.
