I was in a D.C. band that toured the Virgin Islands. They had to rename the place after the band got back.

RE: Yuck
@Niner - Well, they look nice and you must've put a lot of work into them. You've got more horn-patience than, LOL I.
-
RE: Yuck
Niner, do you keep these horns as a hobby or resale them? Looks good whichever the case.

Dr. Mark- "It was the first time the only thing on my body that didn't hurt was my hair. I slept sitting up."
IMO something's wrong. This is not to say that the Martial Arts should coddle someone. I see enough of that as it is. Unbelievable. But IMO, you should ease someone into a program with the right kind of orientation and conditioning, not just jumping in cold turkey.
I guess he analogy would be taking a beginner on trumpet and throwing at him/her an etude with Double High Cs in it.

Oh, grappling oriented. Gracie is tough. A lot of those techniques are used by contact sports.
My system is typically Japanese and relies a lot on pressure points. If she sticks with it, it should give her a lot of confidence and the right kind. I never had a fight as an adult. A huge part of that is awareness of your surroundings and knowing when to avoid conflict in the first place. And, of course, having enough confidence in yourself that you don't have anything to prove in the first place.

Boys are generally bigger and stronger.
When I was in school, I was watching a girls' pick-up game of softball. I accidentally backed up into the catcher's books, kicking dust all over them. The catcher stopped the game immediately and came charging at me. She was a Samoan girl, bigger and tougher than I. She backed me up, flayling away at me the whole time. I was lucky to have escaped with my life, LOL! -
Boys are usually faster.
When I was in Officers' Training School, we had to make a run every morning. I remember looking across in the darkness at a woman who was noticeably shorter than I was. And who was half a track's length ahead of me!
That's why I had her to take and belt in ju-jitsu.
Interesting. What style Dr. Mark?
I trained in Hakko Ryu Jujutsu in Japan. Good on her. -

@Comeback It looks like Kehaulani must have been too busy paying attention to the tour guide.
I was referring to this - "Now if they can find a way to keep the sidewalks from being stained red from all the stabbings".
Never saw that, tour guides pulchritude aside.

RE: Playing Like A Girl
There's still some resentment these days but not like it used to be.
I heard some snarky comments about Carole Dawn Reinhart (Vienna) by a rather visible and successful player in Germany that I wasn't sure was racist or sexist. Knowing the
German trumpet player, probably both. But my point is that, even in this day and even after reaching the heights of internationally known soloist as well as Professor at the University of Music in Vienna, she still gets sexist comments. In the past, I remember in high school, one of the best trumpet players in the state was convinced by her trumpet teacher to switch in her senior year to Horn because she "didn't have any balls". Getting the last laugh, she went on to study at the Royal Academy of Music in London. Pure prejudice.
Professionally, I have worked with female brass players and, musically, I heard a variety of styles but never heard any general playing characteristics I could attribute to their being female.

Man - I've been to Paris a number of times and never noticed those extremes. Might've just been me, but my experiences took a different turn.

RE: How about a "Random Meaningless Image...let's see them string"?
I guess it would be a bad idea to think out of the box.

@Niner said in Lead found in brass horn mouthpieces:
Then I was looking at ebay and noticed that I could have gotten some plastic mouthpieces from China for a lot less. Like a boatload of them for lots cheaper. Like 20 of them for less than $12.
You don't always get what you pay for but you almost always don't get what you don't pay for.

RE: Jaw Position and the Upper Register
Well, I had the same experience. I think I'll just put it to rest.

RE: Jaw Position and the Upper Register
Can anyone point me to a source of information on vertical embouchure. I'm still at odds with the term. Thanks.
-
RE: attn: Dr GO ref "G" mouthpieces
That was a great way to start. If I'm lucky, I can get the mouthpiece. If I do, I'll let you know. Thanks again, K - -
In the meantime, this is what I'm waiting for:
