RE: Matt Brockman: SCAM
Sorry to hear about your bad experience. Hopefully, if there is any silver lining, other people will read this and not fall for the scam.
By all means, please do find a good trumpet teacher. But let me warn you -- they should NOT cost you $6000, and especially not upfront.
I had a lesson with a world-renowned trumpet teacher and this individual charged me $150 for an hour. It was very informative and worth the cost and probably more. That being said, if I had one lesson per week with this individual (world-class, mind you) over the course of, say 50 weeks (1 year approx.), it would cost $7500. So, you see, yes, it can add up. However, this would be in-person, intensive professional preparation with the best instructor out there. So, unless you are finding that individual, please don't pay that kind of money.

RE: Third valve
I don't think Chris Botti needs the slide. He doesn't actually play with anybody else, does he?

RE: A little humour
I feel like the "flat world" is more of a modern thing than anything else. Sort of like "I want to show everyone how different I am so I'm going to pick this silly non-issue to do so."

RE: Taiwanese Trumpets
@flugelgirl said in Taiwanese Trumpets:
My Puje has a Carol valve block and plays very well. It’s also rare that I see a problem with a Jupiter valve block, unless the oil on it is too thick. The tolerances on new Jupiter are pretty tight. I actually keep a Jupiter intermediate under my bench for practice when I don’t bring a horn to work - it’s no replacement for my Adams, but it does play very well! Jupiter 1100 series are more of a stripped down pro model than a dressed-up student, and do quite well as a lower priced model.
Would you recommend a Taiwanese trumpet over, say a Bundy, for a new student?

TrumpetMaster Archives
At the bottom of the homepage, I created a new category called "TrumpetMaster Archives." If you use the Wayback machine (https://archive.org/web/web.php), you can peruse TrumpetMaster before it crashed and post some useful content that existed there.

RE: Tough Decision to make
Oh, this thread went on much longer than I thought!
I ended up purchasing several horns, but for Bb, I bought an Olds Super Recording (jazz/commercial) and a Thein MH One (classical). They are both very fine instruments.

RE: Dual Citizenship
It is true that a dual citizen is bound by the laws of both countries, however, I have read a number of people who have done this already (with the Czech Republic) and they have had no issues. It seems that CZ is fairly transparent about what they expect from dual citizens. I don't see a lot of people warning about any "gray areas" here, so that's good.
From what I understand, there was a push about a decade ago to prevent this, but since 2014, this law has been in place. That's not to say that I shouldn't be cautious going forward, as laws can and do change, but, for now, it seems like there a number of advantages and few disadvantages. I'm not in either country's military, nor do I work for the government, so that eliminates one major concern. I'm in my mid 30s so likely not going to be conscripted for war.
Also, if I want to escape both countries I can just run away to a non-extradition country
