Wow, I don't hear it.
I remember getting wire brushed by a great player when I said that Vincent Herring said he was influenced by Cannonball Adderley. ~I~ didn't say Vincent played like Cannonball. ~Vincent~ said he was influenced by Cannonball's playing.

Yeah, I agree. If anything, his sound is a little closer to Chet Baker than Miles, but really, I feel Fabrizio has a style of his own and I like it. The thing is , I think you can be influenced by other players without necessarily sounding like them. In my case I loved how well Louis, Harry, Bobby Hackett, Al Hirt and a few others, played but never really wanted or expected to sound like them, with the exception of maybe Harry. And in my younger years I may have emulated him a bit, but these days I work on trying to be as unique as possible.

“Man, sometimes it takes you a long time to sound like yourself.” ― Miles Davis.
" I think you can be influenced by other players without necessarily sounding like them."Word. I was greatly influenced on alto sax by Art Pepper, but heard a playback of me and I sounded more like late Sonny Red, LOL.

We are the sum of everything we listen to and practice, plus our unique physiology. It’s almost impossible to sound exactly like someone else, but why would we want to?
They sound great, though - I enjoyed this clip! -

Ahh...to play like Trent...I wouldn't mind losing myself a bit in his case...even if for only a day....

Do not we all go through "stages" in our life before we even identify our own voice? Do not we from birth on "emulate" until we collect enough tools to follow our own path - first with attitude, then speech, then learning to walk... Do not many of us reach a level of "good enough for the gigs that I get" and actually play more than invest in new skills?
I always have trouble with out of context online criticism. I know from my own development and that of my students how many small steps are required to reach any particular goal.
I like Fabrizios playing. Thank you George for the link. I hear a lot of shedding and a certain command of the "jazz" genre. He is so far along, that many (including myself) could learn something even if he is not Miles, Cannonball or any other popular jazzer.
Let us watch his development over time. The media is not always kind to newcomers, we have a real opportunity here before others spoil it.

I did a discography check on him and it seems his first album was in 2000 and has 20 or so released to date, so I'd say he is doing fairly well for a newcomer. I'm going to check Amazon to see if his albums are available in Canada.
Here he is playing a lovely version of The Nearness Of You :

Other Italian trumpet sensations:
Both of these two performers has an Italian parent, and both spent some of their time growing up in Italy. One is known as an American, the other as a German performer, but they also share amazing Italian trumpet genes!
