Very good masterclass. Jack is already an amazing player and Håkan still was able to take him to a higher level - with BASICS! Breathing according to plan, rhythm and concept of tone are not "high level" things that wee need a master for - or do we?
Basically we can listen to anything that Håkan does. He has earned that respect!
The only downside - Jack asked no questions...

I think my favorite part (and there were several) was when Hakan looked at the young man's sheet music and said "where are the breath marks?"
I've had directors complain that I write in breath marks on the sheet music but I just let it go in one ear and out the other. The way I see it, the next person won't have to write them in!
The more we learn about the trumpet the more we learn the weight that air use plays in the process. -
@Dr-Mark I learn that we need an intimate connection to the BASICS - regardless of how advanced certain aspects of our playing might be.

Just like you cannot build a quality house without a foundation. Then once the house is built (advanced materials), it is filled with personal decor which makes it a home (the accomplished musician). I think this metaphor describes how this approach correlates to building a high quality musician.

Once a good foundation is laid on a house, we generally leave it alone and build up from there. I don't know about you but I've done a fist full of performances where I've had to revert back to the foundation especially air use and I'm old and have been doing this a long time (when I think about how long, I should be a lot better!). Never the less, a house's foundation isn't messed with once laid. I always revert to the foundations often especially if I'm having a rough go at it and can't figure out why. That means I bring the foundation (how I'm using my air) into conscious thought for a while. Once its fixed, I go back to groovin' and put the foundation thinking on the back burner. Nope, for me, I always revert to the foundations when I'm not playing my best. I almost never revert to my home's foundation. Maybe the storm drain, sewer, or hot water tank but almost never the foundation.

I think it's great in having a "vacation" home to go to from time to time.
