Does anyone play a Schilke 1041 FLC Flugelhorn? I'm in the market for a new flugelhorn. I played a Jupiter 846 for many years but have sold it. I realize the Schilke 1041 is a much different horn. I haven't had a chance to try a flugelhorn with such a small bore. My main trumpet is a Schilke B7 so I'm a real Schilke fan. I live in Kansas City so eventually I might make a make a trip to Chicago to try out a 1041. I'm not far from ACB so I will also check out some of the Adams horns as well.

More new Flugelhorn tests
After recommendations made on my last Flugel safari post, I tried some Adams horns today.
My judgement is a little skewed right now because I recently had major dental restoration that completely changed... everything. My chops are real weak right now and I was no great talent before. Having said all that: I tried an ACB doubler, Adams Sonic, F1, F2, F3, and an F5. I would not have predicted this but overall I liked the F3 most. The bell on the F3 kind of freaked me out because at 6.70+" it seemed gigantic. I'm used to the Yamaha 631 6" bell. The sound I produced today was best (to my ears) on the F3. I liked the recessed valves and overall playing feel of the F3.
I'm hoping I can get time for another test in a few weeks. -
RE: Adams Sonic or Yamaha 631G
@ca Thanks for your comments. For many years I played a Jupiter 846RL which I hear is much like the Yamaha 631. I liked the way it sounded but I'm undecided on the sound I want now.

@flugelgirl Lots of folks in this group like the Adams flugelhorns. I will give them a try. I live in Kansas City so that makes it easier.

@administrator
I see you play an F1. That means a lot. -

@kehaulani
That is a strong vote. Which configuration did you choose? (By the way.. I've always loved the Chet Baker quote in your signature) -
Adams Sonic or Yamaha 631G
I still haven't bought a flugelhorn. Does anyone have a comparison between the Adams Sonic and the Yamaha 631G? They are very close in price.
iIhad a chance to buy a Yamaha 6310Z at a very fair price but it sold before I could decide. That lead me to consider the Yamaha 8310Z or possibly the 8315G but haven't been able to try either. -
RE: How many is too many?
I have 5 trumpets + a Conn 28A long cornet that seems very trumpet like. Sometimes I consider selling one of them but which one? I've had many horns but sold them all except these six. The only other horn I really want is a flugelhorn. So I guess 5 trumpets, one long cornet, and one flugelhorn is my limit before "too many." If I were forced to choose only one to keep long term It would be the Schilke B7.
