Just Another "New" Discovery

I listen to a lot of jazz, and I listen to it quite regularly, and I use Pandora and Spotify and YouTube to search for new music to listen to, and this album just become one of my favorites.
This is remarkable, because I really cannot imagine how it could have failed to have ever been on radar prior to this week. It's not exactly new material.
Anyway, I'm enjoying the heck out of it now, so we're trending in the right direction....
Love his sound, and love that era of jazz.

In that general genre, do you know:
Charles Tolliver
Ira Sullivan
Kenny Dorham
Dizzy Reece
Booker Little -
@Kehaulani Yes

I've always been a fan of Blue Mitchell. For horn nerds, it looks like he's hugging his Martin Committee in the picture.

When you own one, you know why!

This album has been one of my favorites since I was a kid. It’s also one of the albums that convinced my mother that Jazz isn’t awful

My daughter and her husband bought me the Blue Mitchell Complete Album Collection last Christmas. This was one of 8 albums in the collection. They are all fantastic. Incredible playing. It has been in my regular rotation since then.

When I Fall In Love is one of my favorite ballads and wish I could play it as well as Blue Mitchell does :

This reminds me of the rendition Chris Botti recorded.

This reminds me of the rendition Chris Botti recorded.So I played the two versions back to back, and had to pause every 12 bars or so on Chris Botti's version as he played a slightly faster tempo. One thing stood out so much more than the other (except for Blue Mitchell smoking a cigarette), was Chris plays behind the beat in many of his phrasings. That does change to feel a bet between the two.

Yes, they are very different. Botti's is almost like "Kenny G" style. More pop I suppose.

I think two things about the Chris Botti performance makes this so, the use of strings and guitars in the mix, and the generous use of reverb.

@Dr-GO
I'd get a kick out of anything Botti plays. He is marvelous and just seems to make it look so easy. -

I'd get a kick out of anything Botti plays. He is marvelous and just seems to make it look so easy.He is one of the best, accuracy and control of pitch he is a master at doing this. He really knows how to connect with an audience as well. I have seen him live and in person. Gave him one of the songs I wrote, "Midnight in Tuscany" which he graciously accepted but I have not heard it recorded yet.
